New to Edmonton, not new to moving
Men In Trucks has moved families and businesses since 2010 in Ottawa and has now launched in Edmonton with local crews. You get an established company's way of working (written quotes, booking confirmations, a plan for access and parking) from a new local operation that still has to earn its name here.
Because the Edmonton launch is new, this page does not list past Edmonton jobs or reviews. It shows how we quote and plan a move, so you can compare us on the details.
In the 2021 Census, about 15% of Edmonton residents (146,785 of the 984,475 counted in the mobility data) had moved within the previous year, according to Statistics Canada. Half of the city's homes are single-detached houses, a third are apartments and about one in four is a condo, so our services are split by the kind of home or business you are moving.

How an Edmonton move works
Every local move follows the same stages, and nothing is booked until the details are confirmed in writing.
- Tell us about the move. Send both addresses with their NW, SW or NE suffix, your date, your home size and access details: stairs, elevators, parking, long walks to the truck. Request your written quote online or by phone, or send a booking request priced from our published rates.
- Get it in writing. Your written quote or booking confirmation sets out the services, the date, how the price is calculated and what is included. If something changes, tell us and we will confirm the change in writing.
- Plan the details. Book the elevator or loading dock if your building requires it (your property manager sets the rules), agree where the truck will stand, and decide what you pack and what we pack.
- Moving day. Furniture is padded and wrapped, beds and tables are taken apart where needed, and everything is loaded, moved, placed in the rooms you choose and reassembled.
- After the move. Walk through each room before the crew leaves. If anything is damaged, note it in writing as soon as possible and keep photos.
| Your move | Suggested lead time |
|---|---|
| Studio or one-bedroom apartment | 2 to 3 weeks |
| House or large condo | 3 to 6 weeks |
| Office or commercial space | 8 to 12 weeks of planning |
| Long-distance or interprovincial | 4 to 8 weeks |
| Piano, safe or single item | 1 to 2 weeks |
These are planning suggestions, not booking rules: building bookings, packing and your inventory all take time to line up. If you rent, Alberta's rules for ending a tenancy set your notice period, which depends on your tenancy type. On a monthly tenancy, give notice in writing before the start of the rental month, then book movers for the last days of that month; a fixed-term lease ends on its stated date. General information, not legal advice.
Moving in winter? A snow-clearing parking ban comes with at least 8 hours' notice and restricts parking on the roads being cleared and their alleys (City of Edmonton), and around the December solstice Edmonton gets under 7.5 hours of daylight (7 h 28 min on Dec 21, 2026). Our guide to moving in an Edmonton winter covers both.
How local moving prices work in Edmonton
Our Edmonton rates, before GST (5%): within the City of Edmonton, $150/hr for 2 movers and a truck ($195/hr for 3 movers, $245/hr for 4 and $325/hr for 5 movers with 2 trucks), with a 3-hour minimum (4 hours for 4 or 5 movers) plus 1 hour of travel at the rate for your date. For a move in or out of St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Leduc, Nisku, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan and Devon, with the other address in the same town, in Edmonton or in another of these communities, the first 3 hours are a flat price, from $750 with 2 movers and a truck, then the hourly rate for your date (4-hour minimum for 4 or 5 movers).
Rates can be higher on busy dates (Friday to Sunday, May to September and around month-end). The booking form shows the exact hourly rate for your date.
Ready to pick a date? Send a booking request, or get a written quote first.
Beyond the rate, a local move's time depends mainly on the amount you are moving and how ready it is, access at both ends (stairs, elevators, long carries from the door to the truck) and the distance between stops. Packing, disassembly and specialty items such as pianos and safes are confirmed by our Edmonton team before your move, and long-distance moves get one written flat quote. The full rate card, the minimums and how to compare quotes are in our Edmonton moving cost guide.
Where we move in Edmonton
Edmonton had 1,010,899 people in the 2021 Census (Statistics Canada). The Anthony Henday Drive ring road provides about 80 km of free-flow travel around the city (Government of Alberta). Most of the city carries the NW quadrant suffix, but the same number can exist in NW, SW or NE, so always include the suffix when you send an address.
The North Saskatchewan River cuts diagonally through the city, so north-side to south-side moves use a crossing such as the Walterdale, High Level, Dawson, Capilano, Groat or Quesnell bridges, or the Henday. At rush hour those crossings are choke points, so timing matters as much as distance.
Central Edmonton and downtown
Downtown, the Ice District, Wîhkwêntôwin (formerly Oliver), Rossdale, Boyle Street and Central McDougall. Here a move is about buildings and curb space: elevator bookings and move windows set by each building, loading-zone limits, and signed Residential Parking Program restrictions in Rossdale, Boyle Street and Central McDougall. Edmonton's Traffic Bylaw lets commercial vehicles stop to load and unload with hazard lights on; that does not override posted no-stopping signs, parking bans or Residential Parking Program limits. We plan the truck position before move day.
South Edmonton: Old Strathcona to Mill Woods and Windermere
Garneau, Belgravia, McKernan, Windsor Park and Parkallen, near the U of A's North Campus, are Residential Parking Program zones; some zones near the U of A and NAIT allow temporary permits on request, so ask City Parking Services whether one fits your move. Old Strathcona (Whyte Avenue) is in this part of the city too. Farther out, Mill Woods, The Meadows, Summerside and Ellerslie sit in the southeast, while Windermere, Terwillegar and Heritage Valley in the southwest are near the Henday, Terwillegar Drive and Whitemud Drive. If you are looking for movers in south Edmonton, plan around the Henday and river crossings as much as the distance.
West Edmonton: Westmount, Glenora and Groat Estates
Mature neighbourhoods such as Westmount, Glenora and Groat Estates (also a Residential Parking Program zone) have established homes, so measure stairways and doorways if you own large furniture. Stony Plain Road (Hwy 16A) is one of the main routes west. Moving from west Edmonton? Send both addresses so your quote plans the route.
North Edmonton: Castle Downs, Griesbach and Blatchford
Castle Downs, Griesbach (the former CFB Griesbach lands) and Blatchford (the former City Centre Airport site), with NAIT north of downtown. The City is converting Yellowhead Trail (Hwy 16) to a freeway, with completion expected by about the end of 2027, so expect construction on moves that use it.
Northeast Edmonton: Clareview and the Yellowhead
Clareview sits near Yellowhead Trail and the northeast Henday, with Manning Drive (Hwy 15) heading northeast out of the city. Moves from here to the south side need a river crossing.
Moving to or from nearby communities
Four groups of nearby communities have their own pages.
St. Albert
A city of 68,232 people (2021 Census) where 70% of homes are single-detached, about 17 km from downtown Edmonton along St. Albert Trail (Hwy 2).
Sherwood Park and Strathcona County
Sherwood Park is the urban area of Strathcona County, a county of 99,225 people in 2021 where 80% of homes are single-detached. It is about 16 km from downtown via Baseline Road.
Spruce Grove and Stony Plain
West of the city on Hwy 16A and Hwy 16, about 29 km and 42 km from downtown. Spruce Grove grew 10.4% between 2016 and 2021; 22% of Stony Plain's homes are apartments.
Leduc, Nisku and Beaumont
Leduc is about 34 km south of downtown via the QEII, Nisku Business Park sits about 3 km from Edmonton International Airport, and Beaumont (via 50 Street) grew about 20% between 2016 and 2021.

Long-distance moves from Edmonton
A move that leaves the Edmonton region is quoted differently from a local one. You get one written flat quote for the job, built from your inventory, the access at both ends and your dates. Your written quote states the pickup date and the delivery window.
- Interprovincial moves from Edmonton: how flat quotes work and how to prepare.
- Edmonton to Calgary moves along the QEII.
- Moving from Edmonton to Vancouver, including mountain driving and BC winter rules.
- Moving from Edmonton to Toronto across the Prairies and northern Ontario.

Choosing Edmonton movers: red flags to watch for
Whether you hire us or other professional movers, the same checks apply when comparing moving companies in Edmonton. These warning signs come from general advice by the Government of Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs and the Canadian Association of Movers, and do not refer to any particular company.
- Quotes by phone only. Ask for written quotes, and compare at least three.
- A large cash deposit, or one you cannot get back. Ask whether any deposit is refundable before you pay it.
- A lowball quote, then move-day surcharges. A price far below the rest can grow once your things are on the truck.
- Belongings held until you pay more. A written quote listing what is included is your best defence.
- Look-alike names, fake logos and fake reviews. Check that the company name, phone number and website match on the quote and in every email.
Check any mover's details the same way: Men In Trucks Moving Inc. has its Edmonton office at Suite 3400, 10180 101 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 3S4 (head office in Ottawa); local Edmonton crews are reached at (587) 329-2113 and [email protected].
Questions to ask any mover before you book
- Does the written quote list the crew size, the truck, the estimated time and any extras such as materials?
- On an hourly move, when does the time start and stop?
- Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
- Which protection options does the quote include, and what does your home or tenant policy cover during a move?
- How and by when must damage be reported? Government of Canada guidance notes that claims often must be made within 30 days for local moves and 60 days for long-distance moves.
If a problem cannot be settled with the mover, Government of Canada advice is to go to your provincial consumer office next: in Alberta, the Consumer Contact Centre: 780-427-4088 in the Edmonton area or 1-877-427-4088 toll-free in Alberta.
Why book Men In Trucks
Men In Trucks Moving Inc. is a five-star-rated Canadian mover (Google reviews of our Ottawa operation). Here is how we work.
Everything agreed in writing
Your quote and booking confirmation arrive in writing before move day. Add an item, change the date or need an extra stop? We confirm the change in writing.
How a careful move protects your home
A careful move starts before the first box leaves: runners over floors and stairs, pads on furniture, mattresses covered and door frames protected where the path is tight. Furniture that will not fit through a doorway whole is taken apart and rebuilt at the other end. Tell us what needs protecting and we will confirm in writing.
One quote for the whole job
Combine a local or long-distance move with packing, furniture assembly, a piano or a safe, delivery or labour-only help, all in a single written quote.

Edmonton movers: common questions
Who will handle my move in Edmonton?
A local Edmonton crew booked through Men In Trucks Moving Inc. handles your move. Your quote and booking confirmation come from us in writing before move day, so the date, the services and how the move is priced are agreed before anyone arrives. Questions before or after booking go to (587) 329-2113 or [email protected].
Which parts of Edmonton do you move?
We take moves across the city, from Downtown and Wîhkwêntôwin to Mill Woods, Windermere and Terwillegar on the south side and neighbourhoods such as Glenora, Castle Downs and Clareview. St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Leduc, Nisku and Beaumont have their own pages, and Fort Saskatchewan and Devon use the same flat rates. For any other address near Edmonton, send both addresses and we will confirm in your quote.
How far ahead should I book movers in Edmonton?
As a suggestion, book two to three weeks ahead for a small apartment, three to six weeks for a house and four to eight weeks for a long-distance move. If you rent month to month, give written notice before the start of the rental month, then book movers for the last days of that month. In winter, also watch for City parking bans near your date.
What are the red flags when hiring movers in Edmonton?
Government of Canada and Canadian Association of Movers advice warns about movers who quote only by phone, want a large cash or non-refundable deposit, lowball the quote then add move-day surcharges, or hold your belongings until you pay more. Look-alike names, fake logos and fake reviews are warning signs too. Get written quotes and read what each includes before paying anything.
Can you handle both local and long-distance moves from Edmonton?
Yes. Local moves are priced from our published Edmonton rates: hourly within the City of Edmonton and a flat price for the first 3 hours in nearby communities. Long-distance and interprovincial moves get one written flat quote per job, built from your inventory, access and dates. Our route pages cover Edmonton to Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, and the long-distance page covers moves to other provinces.
