Single items, pickups and small moves

Furniture Movers in Edmonton: Single Items and Small Moves

Not every move is a whole house. Sometimes it is one dresser going to a family member, a sectional from a Kijiji seller, or a studio's worth of furniture. Furniture movers in Edmonton should still wrap it, carry it and place it where you want it. Tell us what and where, and your written quote will show the cost.

How furniture movers in Edmonton handle one piece, or a few

A hand-me-down dresser crossing the river to a north-side apartment. A new sofa going up to a condo in Wîhkwêntôwin (formerly Oliver). If you are looking for single item movers in Edmonton, expect the job to be planned like a full move: access at both ends, where the truck stops, and how the piece is protected. The river bridges are the choke points between south-side and north-side homes, so allow for them at rush hour.

For an accurate quote, send:

  • A photo of each piece, with its height, width and depth.
  • Both addresses, the floor at each end, and any elevator, stairs or long walk from the street.
  • Anything that needs to come apart or go back together.
  • Your date, and any time window set by a building or seller.

Even one sofa can need an elevator booking. Most condo and apartment buildings set their own move rules (elevator bookings, time windows, deposits or fees) through bylaws or building rules. Check with your property manager early, or read our notes on condo moving in Edmonton.

Winter pickups need a shovelled, salted path at both ends and a check for any declared parking ban; our winter moving guide covers both.

Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji and store pickups

Found a dining set on Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji, or bought a bookcase the store will not deliver? We can collect it and bring it home. The split is simple:

You arrange payment and pickup time with the seller; we load, protect and deliver.

Before you book a second-hand pickup

  • Get the seller's measurements and ask about stairs or narrow doors on the way out.
  • Ask whether the piece comes apart and whether its hardware is still with it.
  • Check the item yourself and settle payment before pickup day.
  • Send us the address, pickup window and a contact name for the day.

Store pickups and furniture delivery home

For furniture delivery in Edmonton from a store's pickup desk, have your order number ready and ask whether someone else can collect on your behalf. Flat-pack boxes can be built at your place if you add assembly to your quote. Edmonton's Traffic Bylaw lets commercial vehicles stop to load and unload with hazard lights on. We plan the truck position before move day. That does not override posted no-stopping zones or winter parking bans.

Bought something that needs collecting? Send the pickup address, a photo and measurements.

Rearranging furniture inside your home

Some jobs never leave the house: a sectional going down to the basement, bedrooms swapped when a baby arrives, heavy pieces cleared for new flooring and put back. No truck, same planning.

  • Decide where each piece lands; painter's tape on the floor marks the spot.
  • Empty drawers and take out glass shelves.
  • For flooring or painting, give us both dates: clearing the room and putting it back are two visits, and your quote shows both.
  • Moving a piece down to the basement? Measure the stairwell and landing first with the will-it-fit checklist.
  • Roll up loose rugs and clear a walking path before the crew arrives.

Small moves: studios, dorm rooms and partial loads

Small movers in Edmonton cover the ground between a single item and a full house: a studio, a room in a shared rental, a student heading back to class, or the half of a household that is leaving. List what goes and request your written quote; it shows the cost before anything is booked.

  • Pack small things in similar-sized boxes, or add packing help to your quote.
  • Mark what is leaving with coloured tape so nothing that stays gets loaded.
  • Already have a rental truck and only need people? Labour-only moving help may suit you better.

Furniture disassembly and reassembly

Taking furniture apart is often what gets it through a stairwell. Add furniture disassembly and reassembly to your quote, and pieces are taken down, moved and rebuilt at the other end. Furniture assembly of new flat-pack pieces can ride along with a store pickup.

Beds

Rails, slats and headboards come off so the frame travels flat.

Wardrobes and flat-pack

Doors and shelves come out first. Particleboard can loosen each time it is taken apart.

Sectionals

Sections unclip and legs unscrew to clear tighter doors.

Cribs

Rebuilt following the manufacturer's instructions. Check the finished crib yourself before use.

Desks

Hutches and returns come off. Clear the drawers and bundle cables first.

Dining tables

Legs and leaves come off, and the leaves travel wrapped on their own.

Will it fit? Measure before moving day

The classic surprise is a sofa that cannot clear a doorway. About a third of Edmonton's occupied homes are apartments (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census), so for many moves the tightest point is a building's elevator or stairwell. Measure the piece, then every opening on the route.

Will it fit? What to measure
CheckpointWhat to measureWhat it tells you
The pieceHeight, width and depth; for a sofa, also the diagonal depth (bottom back corner to top front corner)What must clear every opening
DoorwaysClear width with the door fully open, and the heightA sofa can usually angle through if its depth, height or diagonal depth is under this width
Hallways and turnsHall width, and the distance from each doorway to the facing wallLong pieces need room to pivot
StairwellsNarrowest width, headroom under any bulkhead, and the landing where the stairs turnBasement stairs are often the tightest part of a house
ElevatorsDoor width and height, cab depth and cab heightTall pieces such as wardrobes may need to stand upright or come apart
The other endThe same checks at the destinationThe way in can be tighter than the way out

Send photos with a tape measure in the frame.

What a furniture move does not include

These need the right trade, a handyperson or you:

  • Wall anchoring and mounting: tip-over anchors for dressers and bookcases; TVs, shelves or mirrors on walls.
  • Electrical: hard-wired light fixtures, ceiling fans and any wiring.
  • Plumbing: water lines to fridges, washers or anything else on a supply or drain.
  • Gas: gas stoves, dryers and fireplaces, which should be disconnected and reconnected by a qualified gas fitter.

Fit anti-tip anchors as soon as the furniture is placed, especially with young children at home.

Furniture moving questions

Can you move just one piece of furniture?

Yes. Tell us what and where, and your written quote will show the cost. Send a photo and the measurements, both addresses, and any stairs, elevator or long carry at each end. A single dresser going into a condo tower may still need the building's elevator booking, so check with your property manager.

Can you pick up furniture I bought on Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji?

Yes. You arrange payment and pickup time with the seller; we load, protect and deliver. Send us the seller's address, the item's measurements and any stairs at their end, and say whether the piece has to come apart to leave their home.

Do you take apart and rebuild beds and wardrobes?

Yes. Furniture disassembly and reassembly can be added to your quote, including bed frames, headboards, bunk beds and flat-pack wardrobes, with each piece's hardware kept with it. Flat-pack particleboard can loosen each time it is taken apart, so tell us if a piece has been moved before.

What if my sofa will not fit through the door?

Measure first: if the sofa's depth, height or diagonal depth is less than the doorway's clear width, it can usually be angled through. If not, taking off the legs, lifting the door off its hinges or unclipping a sectional often buys the space. If the numbers still do not work, it is better to know before moving day.

One piece, a pickup or a small move?

Send the item list and both addresses, and get a written quote before moving day.
