Student Movers Ottawa — uOttawa, Carleton & Algonquin Specialists
September 1, May 1, and end-of-semester turnover weeks are the busiest moving days in Ottawa — and the days when most movers raise prices or turn away small jobs. Men In Trucks does the opposite: we reserve extra capacity for student moves, keep the same $150/hr rate, and never refuse a studio or shared-room booking. This page is part of our full Ottawa moving services lineup.

Student moves are our specialty — not an afterthought
Most Ottawa movers consider student moves low-margin. We consider them a long-term relationship — you move every year as an undergrad, then again when you graduate, then again when you buy a condo.
Student-friendly crew sizes
Most student moves need just 2 movers. We send exactly what you need, not an upsold 4-mover truck.
Flexible September 1 capacity
We hold extra trucks the last week of August and first week of September for uOttawa, Carleton and Algonquin turnover.
Same rate as everyone else
$150/hr for 2 movers — no student surcharge, no September-1 premium. Other companies mark up peak-season 25-50%; we don’t.
Student move pricing
Most student moves finish in 2-3 hours. Expected total: $380-$560. Dorm room only? Often 2 hours flat (the minimum). Full shared apartment? 3-4 hours with 2-3 movers.
2 Movers + Truck
Studios, 1-bedroom apartments, light loads. 2-hour minimum.
3 Movers + Truck
2-bedroom apartments, small houses. Fastest per-dollar option.
4 Movers + Truck
3+ bedroom houses, heavy loads. Cuts clock time nearly in half.

Student moving FAQ
Do you give a student discount?
Our rate is $150/hr for 2 movers regardless of who is booking — no student discount needed because we do not mark up peak season. Other companies charge a September premium and then offer a “student discount” off that inflated rate.
How early should I book a September 1 move?
Book 2-4 weeks ahead. September 1 is the single busiest moving day in Ottawa — every truck in the city is spoken for by mid-August.
Can you move just one room out of a shared house?
Yes. Single-room moves are common — especially in Sandy Hill and the Glebe.
What if my lease starts September 1 but I need storage for August?
We can load August 31 into our secure depot and deliver September 1 — or any partial storage arrangement. $100/day short-term storage plus the second delivery charge.
My parents are helping — do you pick up from their place?
Yes. Common scenario: we pick up a couple pieces from parents and deliver alongside your own stuff. One booking, one invoice.
Do you move between Ottawa residences (dorm-to-dorm)?
Yes. uOttawa Marchand to 90 U, Thompson to Lees, residence swaps — all within 1 hour typically. Minimum 2-hour charge still applies.
Do I need to tip the movers?
Tipping is not included, but is appreciated for great service. Typical student-move tip is $20-$40 per mover for a 3-hour job.
Do you move between uOttawa and Carleton?
Yes — cross-campus moves are common when students transfer between programs or shared housing changes. Usually 2-3 hours depending on building access.
Can you move me from Ottawa back to Toronto or Montreal after graduation?
Yes — post-graduation long-distance is our busiest summer corridor. Ottawa-to-Toronto, Ottawa-to-Montreal, Ottawa-to-Kingston all have binding flat-rate options.
