Small room clear-out2 hrs~250 kg~$345

Examples only, before tax — your invoice is built from the hours actually worked and the actual scale weight.

What changes the price?

Only two things: how long the job takes and what it weighs. Stairs, long carries, disassembly and heavy awkward items aren’t surcharges — they’re already in the clock. Regulated recycling levies (mattresses, box springs, freon appliances, tires, e-waste) are passed through at cost and itemised. Same-day service adds 15%.

How Our Pricing Actually Works.

Most Ottawa junk haulers price by “truck space” — a number only they can measure. We bill the two things you can verify yourself: the hours on the clock and the weight on the scale ticket.

You Describe the Job

Use our online estimator or call. Tell us what you’ve got and where it sits — we’ll tell you how many hours that usually takes.

We Quote the Clock

You get an hours range at $150/hr plus an expected weight range at $180/tonne. No obligation, no deposit required to lock a time.

We Work the Job

The clock starts when we arrive and stops when we’re done. If the job is running past the estimate, the crew lead tells you while you can still decide — never on invoice day.

We Weigh & Invoice

We load, sweep the spot, and head to the transfer station. Your invoice shows hours worked, the scale-ticket weight, and the donation/recycle split.

❓ Frequently Asked

The Questions Ottawa Homeowners Ask Us.

How much does junk removal cost in Ottawa?
Junk removal is billed at $150/hr for a two-person crew and truck, with a two-hour minimum ($300), plus $180 per tonne for disposal based on the actual weight of your load at the transfer station. Most Ottawa jobs land between roughly $310 for a single curbside item and about $965 for a whole-home clear-out. Because we bill the clock and the scale, every line on your invoice is something you can check. Use our online estimator for a 60-second quote.
How do you decide the price?
Two numbers: hours and kilograms. Labour is $150/hr for two movers and a truck (two-hour minimum), billed from arrival to completion. Disposal is $180/tonne, calculated from the actual weight of your load on the transfer-station scale and prorated to the kilogram. That’s the whole formula. Stairs, long carries, disassembly and heavy awkward items aren’t separate surcharges — they take time, and the clock already accounts for them. Regulated recycling levies are passed through at cost, and same-day bookings add 15%.
Do I have to be home during pickup?
No — as long as the junk is accessible and we have a clear photo and staging instructions. Many of our Ottawa condo and rental clients simply leave the pile at the curb or in the garage, and we text before/after with photos. Payment is handled by card or e-transfer remotely.
Can you come today?
Often, yes. Same-day slots fill fast — book before noon and there’s a strong chance we can fit you in the afternoon. Same-day bookings carry a 15% rush surcharge. Regular booking windows (next-day or weekend) do not.
What happens to my junk after you haul it?
We follow a donate-first, recycle-second, dump-last rule. Working furniture and appliances go to Habitat ReStore, Salvation Army Ottawa, and local shelters. Metal, e-waste, mattresses, and tires go to the proper recycling streams (with their fees already baked into our quote). Only the true leftover goes to the Trail Road or Navan transfer stations.
Do you remove construction debris from my renovation?
Yes — drywall, wood, tile, flooring offcuts, and small demo loads are routine for us. Dense renovation debris is exactly where weight-based billing is fairest: you pay $180/tonne for what’s actually on the scale, rather than a flat “truck” price that assumes the worst. We don’t handle asbestos-containing materials (those require a certified abatement contractor), and very large pure-concrete or soil loads we quote separately, because the transfer station charges those at a different rate.
Will you take mattresses and box springs?
Yes, any size. Handling them is simply part of the hourly clock, and their weight goes on the scale like everything else. Ontario’s regulated mattress recycling levy applies per piece and is passed through to you at cost, itemised on your invoice — mattresses can’t go in regular trash any more.
I only have one item. Is that worth your time?
Yes — single items are one of our most common jobs, especially mattress, couch and appliance removal in Ottawa condos. Worth knowing the minimum, though: every job is billed at the two-hour minimum ($300) plus the weight, so a single curbside mattress comes to roughly $310. If you’re booking anyway, it’s usually worth adding whatever else you’ve been meaning to clear out — the same two hours covers a lot more than one couch. If your building has tight elevator rules, let us know and we’ll coordinate the booking.
Do you offer junk removal for businesses and landlords?
Yes. We run dedicated commercial and property-manager routes — office shutdowns, retail refits, restaurant equipment removal, and rental-turnover clears. We issue monthly corporate invoices and carry insurance certificates on request. Learn about our commercial services.
What if the job takes longer than you estimated?
You’ll know before it happens. Our quote is a range of hours, and if we’re heading past the top of that range the crew lead stops and tells you — you decide whether to keep going, stop where we are, or book a second visit. You only ever pay for hours actually worked and weight actually hauled, so there’s no incentive for us to pad and no surprise on invoice day.

Junk removal in Ottawa: what it costs by the hour, what we won’t take, and how to estimate your job

Ottawa junk removal is billed on two lines: $150/hr for a two-person crew and truck (two-hour minimum), plus $180/tonne for disposal based on the actual weight of your load at the transfer station. Labour, the truck, donation drop-offs and recycling sorting are all inside the hourly rate — the weight line is the dump, at cost plus handling.

where most Ottawa jobs land

  • Curbside single item ≈ $310
  • Garage or small basement ≈ $560
  • Reno debris load ≈ $720
  • Whole-home clear ≈ $965

Ballpark figures before tax; your invoice is built from the hours actually worked and the actual scale weight. Same-day bookings add 15%. Ontario’s regulated mattress and box-spring recycling levy is passed through at cost per piece. E-waste is batched and dropped at a certified Ottawa recycler at no extra charge.

8 more questions Ottawa customers ask before booking

Do you handle e-waste like old TVs, computer towers, and printers?

Yes. E-waste is sorted at our yard and dropped at a Recycle My Electronics certified depot in the east end. There is no extra fee for standard household quantities — TVs, monitors, towers, printers, small appliances, cables, and batteries. Bulk commercial e-waste (50+ pieces) is quoted separately because the recycler charges by weight above that threshold. Bring it on the curb with the rest of the load and tell the crew lead it’s e-waste so we can keep it out of the landfill stream.

What about charity donation pickup — can I send useful items somewhere instead of the dump?

Yes, this is part of how we keep the diversion rate high. Couches, dressers, kitchen tables, baby gear, working appliances, dishes, and clean clothing get routed to Helping with Furniture, Matthew House, or the Ottawa Mission, depending on what’s accepted that day. We don’t charge extra for the donation drop-off. If you have specific items earmarked for a specific charity (a piano for a school, a desk for a relative), tell the crew lead before we load and we’ll set them aside.

What is on the “we won’t take” list? Anything we should keep aside?

The provincial hazardous-waste list is the rule we follow. We can’t haul: paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, asbestos, fluorescent tubes, prescription medications, or commercial chemical drums. We also won’t lift any single item over 700 lb (large hot tubs, industrial safes, full-size pianos with cast-iron frames) without a heavy-item add-on quoted in advance. Everything else — yes including BBQs with the propane removed, pool tables broken down, hot tubs drained, and IKEA furniture in pieces.

Will my condo board need a Certificate of Insurance for a junk pickup?

If you live in a downtown highrise or a managed Centretown / Westboro condo, the answer is almost always yes — same as a move. We email a 5,000,000 CAD COI naming the corporation as additional insured the same day you book; condo office turnaround is usually 24-48 hours, so book the elevator and the pickup at the same time. Buildings we get COIs for most often: Claridge Royale, Minto-managed mid-rises, and the Glebe waterfront set on Echo Drive.

Do you do weekend pickups, and are they more expensive?

Saturday rates match weekday. Sunday and statutory holidays carry a 15 percent dispatch fee because we run a smaller crew. We do book weekend pickups same-day for smaller loads in the urban core (Sandy Hill, Centretown, Glebe, Hintonburg). Suburb same-day on weekends (Kanata, Orleans, Stittsville) depends on whether a return trip already exists in the schedule — call the office and we’ll tell you in 30 seconds.

Can you handle a hoarding-situation cleanout discreetly?

Yes, this is a regular call for us — usually triggered by a downsizing event, a family-member transition, or a landlord turnover. The crew arrives in unmarked uniforms, parks the truck so neighbours don’t see the loading, and we work room-by-room rather than dumping the whole house at once. We coordinate with social workers, hoarding-recovery counsellors, and family contacts when asked. Pricing is the same $150/hr plus $180/tonne as any other job — a hoarding clear simply takes more hours, and you get an hours range before we start.

How does a photo quote work versus an in-person visit?

For 80 percent of Ottawa pickups, three smartphone photos are enough: a wide shot of the pile, a close-up of the bulkiest item, and a shot of the access path (stairs, alley, elevator). We text back an estimated hours-and-weight quote in under an hour during business hours. In-person visits are free for large or whole-home loads, hoarding situations, and any pickup where access is unclear (rooftop deck, steep ravine yard, behind a locked gate). The in-person visit doesn’t lock you in — same-day cancellation is fine if the price doesn’t fit.

Do you offer same-day junk removal, or do I need to book ahead?

Same-day pickup is available almost every business day before 1pm if the pile is in the urban core and looks like a half-day job or less. Bigger jobs, suburb pickups, and post-1pm calls usually move to next-day. We hold two same-day slots per crew daily; on month-end Fridays they fill by 9am. Same-day bookings add 15%. The fastest path: text the photos plus your address to the dispatch line and ask for the next available slot.

Estimate your job in 4 steps

  1. Count the big stuff. Walk the rooms and count the large items (couch, fridge, mattress, dresser). Budget roughly 10-15 minutes of crew time per large item, more if it has to come down stairs.
  2. Add the box count. Estimate the cardboard / banker-box equivalents of small stuff. About 10 boxes is another half hour of loading.
  3. Check it against the minimum. Under two hours of work? You pay the two-hour minimum, $300. Over? Add $150 for each extra hour. Then add roughly $180 per tonne for the weight — most household loads run 200-800 kg, so $35-$145.
  4. Send 3 photos. Wide shot, close-up of the largest item, access path. We confirm your hours range and expected weight before the crew arrives.
