An Ottawa moving company, new to Toronto
Men In Trucks Moving Inc. was founded in Ottawa in 2010. Toronto is a new city for us: Men In Trucks crews now handle local moves here, arranged through our office on Front Street West.
Because we are new here, this page shows no Toronto testimonials, job counts or local history. It shows how we price, plan and confirm a move.

Moving-day logistics in Toronto
City of Toronto and Ontario rules, with a link to each official page. Rules change, so check the linked page for your date. General information, not legal advice.
Truck parking, rush-hour streets and truck restrictions
In the City of Toronto a moving truck can usually stop at the curb while it is actively loading or unloading, but posted signs still apply. Where a sign says No Parking, loading is generally allowed; No Standing and No Stopping zones cannot be used for a moving truck. Unsigned streets have a three-hour parking limit. We plan the truck spot around the signs on your street (City of Toronto parking regulations (opens in a new tab)).
The City's special parking consideration program does not cover moving days, so a legal curb spot needs to be planned in advance. If your street is permit-parking only, ask the City's Permit Parking office about options before moving day; resident permits are designed for residents' and visitors' vehicles (City of Toronto temporary on-street parking (opens in a new tab)). A moving container or a disposal bin placed on the street needs a City street occupation permit (opens in a new tab).
Many main Toronto streets have signed rush-hour no-stopping periods. When the curb in front of your building is affected, we schedule loading outside those times or use a nearby legal spot. Some residential streets restrict heavy trucks; deliveries to an address on that street are generally allowed, and we plan the rest of the route on permitted streets. The signs posted on the street are what apply on the day (Municipal Code Chapter 950, PDF consolidated July 2022 (opens in a new tab)).
Condos and apartments: elevators and move times
Each Toronto condo sets its own move rules, such as elevator booking, allowed move hours and deposits. Condo rules are passed by each corporation's board (Condominium Authority of Ontario (opens in a new tab)). Ask your property manager for the move rules early and share them with us so we can plan the crew and timing.
Questions to ask your property manager before you pick a date:
- Which days and times are moves allowed, and how is the service elevator booked?
- Is a move deposit or a damage deposit required?
- Where does the truck load: a loading dock, a lane or the street, and is there a height limit?
- Does the building want any documents from the moving company before move day?
If it does, send us the building's request before you book, and our Toronto team will confirm whether it can meet it. The booking form asks whether each address has an elevator and whether it is booked, and about any loading-zone, permit or clearance limits, so have the answers ready. It offers a morning, midday or afternoon arrival window, or a flexible one, in Eastern Time.
Winter moves, snow routes and streetcar streets
During a declared major snowstorm, parking is banned on Toronto's signed snow routes, which are mostly downtown and include every streetcar route. Temporary orange no-parking signs can also go up for snow removal. We watch City notices and may adjust truck placement or timing (City of Toronto snow removal after major storms (opens in a new tab)).
Renting? Notice and your moving date
Tenants in Ontario generally give at least 60 days' written notice using the Landlord and Tenant Board's Form N9. Confirm your dates with the LTB before you lock in a moving day: How a tenant can end their tenancy (Tribunals Ontario) (opens in a new tab).
Before moving day
- Leaving furniture or a mattress behind? Houses can set oversized items out on garbage day; condo and apartment residents should follow their building's rules (City details (opens in a new tab)).
- Paint, propane tanks, fuels and household chemicals should not go on the truck: federal dangerous-goods rules limit what a hired mover can carry (Transport Canada (opens in a new tab)). Toronto accepts them at its drop-off depots or through its Toxic Taxi pickup (City of Toronto household hazardous waste (opens in a new tab)).
- Keep jewellery, cash, medication and important documents with you on moving day.
How a Toronto move works
- Send a request. Use the booking form to choose your crew and date and see the rate for that date, or ask for a written quote first. Sending the form does not book the move or charge you anything.
- We confirm availability. Our Toronto team checks your details and contacts you by phone or email to confirm the date, the arrival window (Eastern Time) and the crew, plus anything priced separately, such as packing or a piano.
- Pay the deposit to book. You get a payment link for the deposit. Your move is booked once it is paid.
- Moving day. The crew loads, moves and places your furniture in the rooms you choose. Walk through each room with the crew before they leave.
What we need for an accurate quote
- Both addresses, any extra stop, your date and preferred arrival window.
- Home type and size, or the number of workstations for an office.
- Elevators (and whether they are booked) and flights of stairs at each address.
- Parking or loading limits: a loading zone, a permit street, a long walk to the door, low clearance.
- Heavy items, the packing level you want, and furniture to take apart.
How local moving prices work in Toronto
Our Toronto rates on standard dates, before HST (13%). The price covers the crew, the truck and the time. When both addresses are inside the City of Toronto (including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, York and East York), the move is hourly, with a 3-hour minimum for 2 or 3 movers and 4 hours for 4 or 5 movers, plus 1 hour of travel at the crew rate for your date.
When one or both addresses are in a surrounding community listed in the booking form, the first 3 hours are a flat price, then the hourly rate for your date applies. For 4 or 5 movers, the fourth hour is billed at that hourly rate.
Example. With 2 movers inside the City of Toronto, the smallest booking is 4 hours at $150/hr on a standard date: the 3-hour minimum plus 1 hour of travel.
Busy dates. Rates can be higher on busy dates (Friday to Sunday, May to September and around month-end); every other date is a standard date. The booking form shows the exact hourly rate for your date. The flat first 3 hours stay the same on every date.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Crew | Within the City of Toronto | Minimum | To, from or within a surrounding community: first 3 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 movers and a truck | $150/hr | 3 hours | $750 flat |
| 3 movers | $195/hr | 3 hours | $950 flat |
| 4 movers | $245/hr | 4 hours | $1,200 flat |
| 5 movers and 2 trucks | $325/hr | 4 hours | $1,600 flat |
Deposit and booking. Sending the form is a request, with no payment taken. Once our Toronto team confirms availability, we send a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is booked when it is paid. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.
Not priced online. Long-distance moves get one written flat quote per job. Packing, furniture disassembly, extra stops and heavy items such as pianos and safes are confirmed by our Toronto team before your move.

What you can check about us
- Founded in Ottawa in 2010. Toronto is a new office for us.
- Published rates. The rate card is on this page, and the booking form shows the rate for your date.
- Written quotes. Nothing is booked and no deposit is requested unless you accept the quote.

Checks that apply to any Toronto mover, including us
- Get the price in writing. Ontario's consumer protection rules call for a written contract that itemizes the services and prices.
- Ask how far the final bill can go above the estimate. The Province limits this unless you agree to extra services or supplies.
- A mover may not hold your belongings to demand more money.

Where we move in Toronto and the GTA
Hourly local rates apply across the City of Toronto. The districts and neighbourhoods below are all in that zone.
Downtown and central Toronto
Downtown Toronto, the Financial District, the Entertainment District, CityPlace, Harbourfront, Liberty Village and the Annex. Most of the City's signed snow routes are downtown, and they include every streetcar route.
Midtown and North York
Midtown, Yonge–Eglinton and Leaside, plus Don Mills, Willowdale and the rest of North York.
East end, East York and Scarborough
Riverdale, Leslieville, the Danforth and the Beaches, plus East York and Scarborough.
West end, York and Etobicoke
Parkdale, Roncesvalles, High Park, the Junction and Bloor West Village, plus York and Etobicoke.
What changes from one Toronto address to the next is the building and the curb, not the rate: the elevator booking in a tower, the signs on a house street, and the snow-route rules on a streetcar street.

Road distance is what counts: Niagara-on-the-Lake is about 50 km away in a straight line but about 126 km by road around the lake.
These are service areas, not office locations. Distances are approximate road distances from our Toronto office to each town centre, measured in October 2026. Your quote is based on your actual addresses. Distance data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Outside the City of Toronto, your own municipality's parking and waste rules apply; we check them when we plan your move.
Long-distance moves from and to Toronto
A move beyond the communities in the booking form gets one written flat quote, not an hourly price. Choose Long-distance in the booking form and tell us where you are moving to. No deposit is requested unless you accept the quote.
The quote is built from the details the form asks for: both addresses, the size of your home or office, your date, the access at each end, and any packing or heavy items.

More on moving out of Toronto: our Toronto long-distance moves page explains how the written flat quote is put together.
Route guides: Toronto to Ottawa, Ottawa to Toronto and Edmonton to Toronto. Those pages list our Ottawa or Edmonton office; for a quote from the Toronto team, use the Toronto booking form or call the number above.

Toronto movers: common questions
How much do movers cost in Toronto?
Inside the City of Toronto, local moves are hourly: $150/hr for 2 movers and a truck, $195/hr for 3 movers, $245/hr for 4 movers and $325/hr for 5 movers with 2 trucks, before HST (13%), with a 3-hour minimum (4 hours for 4 or 5 movers) plus 1 hour of travel. For a move to, from or within a surrounding community listed in the booking form, the first 3 hours are a flat $750, $950, $1,200 or $1,600 for the same crews, then the hourly rate for your date; 4- and 5-mover crews have a 4-hour minimum, so their fourth hour is billed at that hourly rate. Rates can be higher on busy dates.
What is the smallest move you take?
Inside the City of Toronto the minimum is 3 hours for 2 or 3 movers and 4 hours for 4 or 5 movers, plus 1 hour of travel. With 2 movers that is 4 hours at $150/hr, before HST (13%); rates can be higher on busy dates. For one piece or a few, ask for a written quote and describe the items.
Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
Yes: a $105 deposit, refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move (inside 48 hours a fee may apply). Nothing is charged when you send the booking form. After our Toronto team confirms availability, you get a payment link for the deposit, and your move is booked once it is paid.
How many movers do I need?
The booking form suggests a crew from your home size: 2 movers for a studio or 1-bedroom home, 3 movers for 2 bedrooms, 4 movers for 3 bedrooms and 5 movers with 2 trucks for 4 or more bedrooms. You can pick any crew size; the right one also depends on the access at both addresses and how ready everything is. The Toronto team confirms the crew with you before the move is booked.
How far ahead should I book movers in Toronto?
As early as you can once your date is firm. If you rent, a good time to start is when you give your landlord notice; tenants in Ontario generally give at least 60 days' written notice. In a condo or apartment building, get the move rules and book the elevator first. Friday to Sunday, May to September and month-end are the busy dates.
My condo needs the elevator booked. How does that work with the movers?
Start with your property manager: each Toronto condo sets its own move rules, such as elevator booking, allowed move hours and deposits. In the booking form, tell us whether the elevator is booked and choose the arrival window that fits your slot. Share the building's rules with us and we plan the crew and timing around them.
Do I need a parking permit for a moving truck in Toronto?
The City of Toronto says moving vans may park on the street while actively loading or unloading, as long as posted signs and parking restrictions are followed. No Standing and No Stopping zones cannot be used. A moving container or disposal bin placed on the street needs a City street occupation permit.
What happens if it snows on moving day?
During a declared major snowstorm, parking is banned on Toronto's signed snow routes, which include every streetcar route. We watch City notices and may adjust truck placement or timing.
Do you move offices in Toronto?
Yes. Choose Office/Commercial in the booking form and enter the number of workstations, or ask for a written quote first. Many main Toronto streets have signed rush-hour no-stopping periods, so we schedule loading outside those times or use a nearby legal spot. Ask your building's management early for its move rules and any elevator or loading-dock booking, and share them with us.
