A long-distance moving company with a Toronto office
Men In Trucks Moving Inc. was founded in Ottawa in 2010. Toronto is a new office for us, so this page shows no Toronto testimonials, job counts or route history. It explains how a long-distance move that starts or ends in Toronto is quoted, planned and confirmed.

Moves this page is about
- Leaving Toronto or a surrounding community. From an address in the City of Toronto, or in a surrounding community listed in our booking form (in the GTA, or beyond it in places such as Hamilton or Barrie), to elsewhere in Ontario or to another province.
- Moving to Toronto from farther away. The booking form takes pickups in the Toronto area only, so call (365) 601-5001 or email [email protected] and the Toronto team will quote it. Starting in another Men In Trucks city? You can also use that city's page (see which office handles it).
- Not long-distance: moves inside the Toronto area. When both addresses are in the City of Toronto or the surrounding communities listed in the booking form, the move is priced at our published local rates instead (see prices).
- Inside Canada. The booking form's destinations are elsewhere in Ontario or another province. Moves to the United States or overseas are not offered through it.
Packing, furniture and heavy items
Packing help
Choose none, partial or full packing in the booking form. The Toronto team confirms it with you before the move.
Furniture disassembly
The form asks whether furniture needs disassembly and reassembly. The Toronto team confirms it with you before the move.
Heavy or unusual items
Pianos, safes, gym equipment: tick them in your request; the team confirms what is needed before the move.
Storage is not offered through the Toronto booking form. If your new home will not be ready on your move-out date, put the date you must be out and the date you can receive your belongings in the notes of your request, before you accept a quote.
How a long-distance moving quote works
- Send a quote request. Open the written quote form, or choose Long-distance as the move type in the booking form. For a destination outside the areas listed, pick Elsewhere in Ontario or Another province and type the city or town you are moving to. Sending the form does not book the move or charge you anything.
- We prepare one written flat quote. Our Toronto team checks your details and sends you one written flat quote for the whole move.
- You decide. Nothing is booked and no deposit is requested unless you accept the quote. Ask about anything that is unclear, including timing for your route, before you accept.
- Pickup and delivery. Be there, or have someone you trust there, at pickup and at delivery, and note anything missing or damaged before the movers leave, as the Province of Ontario advises.
What we need for an accurate long-distance quote
- Both full addresses, and the city or town you are moving to.
- Any additional stop on the way, with its address.
- Your preferred moving date.
- Home type and size, from a studio to 4 or more bedrooms, or the number of workstations for an office.
- At each address: whether there is an elevator and whether it is booked, and how many flights of stairs.
- Parking or loading limits at each end: a loading zone, a permit street, a long walk to the door, low clearance.
- Heavy items, the packing level you want, and furniture to take apart.
- Anything else in the notes, such as large items or a date by which you must be out or can receive your belongings.
- Photos of large or heavy items help us plan. The form does not take uploads, so reply to the confirmation email with them.
We do not publish long-distance prices, transit times or departure schedules, because each move is quoted on its own details. Your written flat quote is the price for the move it describes, so tell us about changes, such as an extra room or a new delivery address, before you accept it.
Which Men In Trucks office handles your move
Men In Trucks has offices in Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Halifax. When a long-distance move starts or ends in another of those cities, the office that receives your request owns the quote. The other office is named in your request so the two teams can coordinate. You do not get a second booking, so you only need to contact one office.
- Starting in Toronto or a surrounding community. Use the Toronto booking form or call (365) 601-5001. The Toronto team quotes the move.
- Starting in another Men In Trucks city, moving to Toronto. Use that city's page and booking form, and that office quotes the move; or contact the Toronto team. Either way, one office owns your quote.
- Using a route page. The Toronto to Ottawa and Ottawa to Toronto pages list our Ottawa office, and the Edmonton to Toronto page lists our Edmonton office. A request sent from one of them is quoted by that office.
Access at the Toronto end, and at the other end
A long-distance truck still has to load or unload at the curb or a loading dock at both addresses. Each rule below links to its official page. Rules change, so check the linked page for your date. General information, not legal advice.
At the Toronto end
In the City of Toronto a moving truck can usually stop at the curb while it is actively loading or unloading, but posted signs still apply, and No Standing and No Stopping zones cannot be used for a moving truck (City of Toronto parking regulations (opens in a new tab)). Each Toronto condo sets its own move rules, such as elevator booking, allowed move hours and deposits (Condominium Authority of Ontario (opens in a new tab)). During a declared major snowstorm, parking is banned on Toronto's signed snow routes, which include every streetcar route (City of Toronto snow removal after major storms (opens in a new tab)). Full Toronto curb, condo and winter details: moving-day logistics in Toronto.
Building rules at both ends
On a long-distance move, ask the property manager at each end for that building's move rules: the days and times moves are allowed and how the service elevator is booked, whether a move or damage deposit is required, where the truck loads and whether there is a height limit, and whether the building wants any documents from the moving company. Share both sets of answers with us early. If a building wants documents, send us its request before you accept the quote, and our Toronto team will confirm whether it can meet it.
Outside the City of Toronto, and other destinations
Outside the City of Toronto, your own municipality's parking and waste rules apply, and the city you are moving to has its own rules too. Tell us about the street and the building at both ends in your request, so the quote reflects the access at each end.
At the other end: moving to another Men In Trucks city
Moving to a city where we also have an office? Each card links our page for that city and, for most cities, the official page to check for the delivery end. Your quote still comes from the office that receives your request.
Montréal
Whether you need a permit to reserve curb space for the truck depends on the borough and the street, for example parking meters, a bike path or no-parking signs (City of Montréal (opens in a new tab)). Many Québec leases turn over on July 1, so plan your date and building access early. After the move, Québec.ca (opens in a new tab) lets you update your address with several government bodies in one step. More: Montréal movers.
Calgary
Holding curb space for a moving truck, or putting a moving container on the street, is done with a City of Calgary Street Use Permit (opens in a new tab). If your new street needs one, apply well before your delivery date. More: Calgary movers.
Edmonton
Our Edmonton movers page covers moving in Edmonton, and the Edmonton to Toronto route guide covers the same corridor in the other direction. Both list our Edmonton office. Check the City of Edmonton's current parking and loading rules for your new street before your date.
Winnipeg
To hold street space while a truck loads or unloads, the City of Winnipeg issues a Use of Street permit (opens in a new tab). Fees may apply, so ask the City well ahead about its requirements. More: Winnipeg movers.
Vancouver
Our Vancouver movers page links the City of Vancouver's current pages on curb space, large vehicles and loading. Check them for your delivery date.
Halifax
Halifax has an overnight winter parking ban (opens in a new tab) season, from mid-December to the end of March, that is enforced only when declared. For a winter delivery, check the ban status and your zone for that date. More: Halifax movers.
Ottawa
See our Ottawa movers page and the Toronto to Ottawa route guide. Both list our Ottawa office, and a request sent from them is quoted by that office.
Before a long-distance moving day
- Renting in Toronto? Plan the notice first: the Landlord and Tenant Board's form for it is the N9, generally given in writing at least 60 days ahead. The Board's brochure dates from April 2018, so check your own dates with the LTB before choosing a moving day: How a tenant can end their tenancy (Tribunals Ontario) (opens in a new tab).
- What stays off the truck. Federal dangerous-goods rules limit what a hired mover can carry (Transport Canada (opens in a new tab)). Toronto takes household hazardous waste at its drop-off depots and Community Environment Days, or through its Toxic Taxi pickup (City of Toronto household hazardous waste (opens in a new tab)).
- Valuables and documents. Move valuable items, such as jewellery and artwork, and your personal documents yourself, as the Province recommends.
- Moving to work or run a business at a new location, or to study full time? The Canada Revenue Agency explains which moving expenses may be deductible and the distance test your new home generally has to meet, measured by the shortest public route (CRA, line 21900 moving expenses (opens in a new tab)). General information, not tax advice.
Your rights when you hire a mover in Ontario
- Have the contract in writing. Under Ontario's consumer protection rules it should name the mover, describe the services with each price itemized, and give the total, the dates and the payment terms.
- The Province limits how far the final bill can go above the estimate in your contract, unless you need extra supplies or services and agree to them.
- A mover may not hold your belongings to pressure you into renegotiating the contract.
- Confirm who is responsible for lost or damaged items; the contract can say so.

How prices work: long-distance quotes and local rates
Long distance: one written flat quote. When you choose Long-distance in the booking form, or your destination is outside the Toronto area it lists, the form shows no online price. Our Toronto team sends one written flat quote for the move, and nothing is booked or charged unless you accept it. We publish no long-distance figures.
Where long distance starts. The booking form lists the City of Toronto and the surrounding communities inside our 150 km local area, such as Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville, Hamilton, Oshawa and Barrie. A destination beyond them, such as Kingston, London or Ottawa, makes the move long-distance. Our Toronto movers page lists the surrounding communities by region.
If your move turns out to be local. When both addresses are in the City of Toronto (North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, York and East York included), you pay by the hour: at least 3 hours for 2 or 3 movers, or 4 hours for 4 or 5 movers, plus 1 hour of travel at the crew rate for your date. When one or both addresses are in a surrounding community listed in the booking form, the first 3 hours are a flat price and the hourly rate for your date applies after that; with 4 or 5 movers, the fourth hour is billed at that hourly rate.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Crew | Within the City of Toronto | Minimum | To, from or within a surrounding community: first 3 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 movers and a truck | $150/hr | 3 hours | $750 flat |
| 3 movers | $195/hr | 3 hours | $950 flat |
| 4 movers | $245/hr | 4 hours | $1,200 flat |
| 5 movers and 2 trucks | $325/hr | 4 hours | $1,600 flat |
Busy dates. On busy dates (Friday to Sunday, May to September and around month-end) hourly rates can be higher; all other dates are standard dates. The booking form shows the exact hourly rate for the date you choose, and the flat first 3 hours do not change with the date.
Deposit for a local booking. After our Toronto team confirms availability for a local move, it sends a payment link for the $105 deposit, and the move is booked when the deposit is paid. The deposit is refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.

Long-distance moves from Toronto: common questions
How much do long distance movers in Toronto cost?
Each long-distance move gets one written flat quote, so we publish no long-distance figures. The quote is built from both addresses, the size of your home or office, your date, the access at each end, and any packing, disassembly or heavy items. Moves that stay in the City of Toronto or the surrounding communities listed in the booking form use our published local rates instead. Comparing movers? The Government of Canada's moving advice recommends written quotes and a real business address.
How long does a long-distance move from Toronto take?
We do not publish transit times or delivery dates, because each long-distance move is planned on its own details. Give your preferred moving date in the request, add any date limits at either end in the notes, and ask the Toronto team about timing for your route before you accept the quote. Ontario's rules call for the written contract to state the start and end dates, so ask for your pickup and delivery dates in writing before you accept.
Can I get a quote for a move to Toronto from another province?
Yes. Call (365) 601-5001 or email [email protected] and the Toronto team will quote it. If you are starting in a city with a Men In Trucks office, you can also use that city's page; the office that receives your request owns the quote.
Which office handles a move between Toronto and another Men In Trucks city?
The office that receives your request owns the quote. The other office is named in your request so the two teams can coordinate, and there is no second booking, so you only need to contact one office.
Can you pack, take furniture apart or store my things on a long-distance move?
You can choose none, partial or full packing in the booking form and tell us whether furniture needs disassembly and reassembly; the Toronto team confirms these with you before the move. Storage is not offered through the Toronto booking form.
Do I pay anything to get a long-distance quote?
Nothing is charged when you send the request, and no deposit is requested unless you accept the written quote.
Do you move to the United States or overseas?
The Toronto booking form takes destinations elsewhere in Ontario or in another province. Moves to the United States or overseas are not offered through it.
What should not go on the moving truck?
Paint, propane tanks, fuels and household chemicals: federal dangerous-goods rules limit what a hired mover can carry. In Toronto, take them to a City drop-off depot or a Community Environment Day, or ask about a Toxic Taxi pickup. Move jewellery, artwork and personal documents yourself.
