New to Winnipeg: what you can check today
Men In Trucks Moving Inc. is a moving company founded in Ottawa in 2010. Winnipeg is a new city for us, so this page shows no past Winnipeg jobs or testimonials. It shows what you can compare today: our rates, how quotes and bookings work, and the local rules that shape a moving day.

Planning a Winnipeg move: truck parking, winter bans and building rules
These are the local rules to check before a Winnipeg moving day. Each topic links to the official page, because City rules and fees change. This is general information, not legal advice.
Where the truck can park
The City of Winnipeg's Truck Regulation page (opens in a new tab) describes a one-hour limit for vehicles longer than 6.7 m (22 ft) parked on a street, with an exception for a tradesperson working at premises nearby. A moving truck can be longer, and the page does not say whether movers count, so do not rely on the exception.
Loading zones and back lanes have their own time limits, set by the sign or by the City's Parking By-law. By-laws change, so check the Winnipeg Parking Authority's loading zone page (opens in a new tab), its Parking By-law page (opens in a new tab) and the signs at your address before counting on either for a whole move.
Where there is no legal place for a truck for as long as a move takes, a Use of Street permit (opens in a new tab) for loading and unloading may be needed from Public Works. The City's page gives the conditions, possible fees and contacts for permit questions, but no processing time, so ask well ahead. In your request, tell us what street parking looks like at both addresses.
Moving in a Winnipeg winter
Before you pick a winter date, check two things on the City's winter parking bans page (opens in a new tab): whether either address is on a signed winter route (search the winter route map (opens in a new tab)), and your street's snow zone letter (Know Your Zone app, address lookup or 311).
- Winter route parking ban. The City can start it any time from November 1 to the end of April, with seven days' notice. While it is on, no one can park on streets signed WINTER ROUTE or SNOW ROUTE from 2 to 7 a.m., or from midnight if the City extends it. The earliest arrival window in our booking form starts at 8 a.m., so this matters mainly for a vehicle or container left on the street overnight.
- Residential parking ban. Called after a significant snowfall. The City then announces which snow zones are plowed in which 12-hour shift, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. If your zone's shift falls on your moving day, a vehicle parked against the ban can be ticketed, so tell us as soon as the schedule is out and we will plan the truck's position or timing with you.
- Before the crew arrives. Look for temporary no-parking signs, which the City posts where a street needs extra snow work, and clear snow and ice from the steps, the walk and the driveway or back lane.
Condo and apartment buildings
Under Manitoba's Condominium Act (opens in a new tab), a condo board can make rules for common elements such as elevators and lobbies, and tenants have to follow them. Before you book, ask your property manager, board or landlord whether you must reserve an elevator, which entrance to use and when moves are allowed.
Renting: notice and move-out day
Renting month to month in Manitoba? Your notice has to cover one full rental period: if rent is due on the 1st, give notice by the last day of a month to move out at the end of the next, as the Residential Tenancies Branch (opens in a new tab) explains. Confirm the move-out time with your landlord.
Before moving day
- Furniture or appliances you are leaving: the City picks up large items (opens in a new tab) for a fee if you request it at least two full business days before your collection day.
- Fuels and chemicals: please do not pack propane tanks, gasoline, other fuels or household chemicals. Federal dangerous-goods rules (opens in a new tab) limit what a hired mover can carry. If you are unsure about an item, ask us first.
How a move with us works
- Send a request. Send a booking request priced from our published rates, or ask for a written quote first. In the form you choose an arrival window: 8 to 10 a.m., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 4 p.m. or flexible, Central Time. Neither request books the move or charges you anything.
- We confirm availability. Our Winnipeg team contacts you by phone or email to confirm the date, the arrival window and the crew.
- You pay the deposit. You get a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is booked once it is paid.
- Moving day. The crew protects and loads your furniture, moves it and places everything in the rooms you choose. Walk through with them before they leave.
What we need for an accurate quote
- Both addresses, with unit numbers.
- Your move date, and whether it is flexible.
- The size of the home, or the number of workstations.
- At each address: elevators (and whether one is booked), stairs and any parking or loading restriction.
- Heavy items, such as a piano, a safe or gym equipment.
- Packing (none, partial or full), furniture to take apart and extra stops.
How local moving prices work in Winnipeg
These are our starting rates in Winnipeg, plus applicable taxes. The price is for the crew, the truck and the time.
| Crew | In Winnipeg | Min. | Outside the city: first 3 hours (flat) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 movers and a truck | $150/hr | 3 hours | $750 |
| 3 movers and a truck | $195/hr | 3 hours | $950 |
| 4 movers and a truck | $245/hr | 4 hours | $1,200 |
| 5 movers and two trucks | $325/hr | 4 hours | $1,600 |
- Busy dates: rates can be higher from Friday to Sunday, from May to September and around month-end. The booking page shows the exact hourly rate for your date. The flat price for the first 3 hours stays the same on every date.
- Inside the City of Winnipeg: hourly, with a minimum of 3 hours for 2 or 3 movers and 4 hours for 4 or 5 movers, plus a 1-hour travel charge at the crew rate, so at least 4 billed hours (5 for 4 or 5 movers).
- Between Winnipeg and a surrounding community, between two of them or within one: the first 3 hours are a flat $750, $950, $1,200 or $1,600 depending on the crew, then the hourly rate. For 4 or 5 movers the fourth hour is billed at the hourly rate.
- Past the minimum: extra time is billed at the hourly rate for your date.
- Deposit: the $105 deposit is requested only after our Winnipeg team confirms availability; see How a move with us works. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.
- Not in the published rates: packing, furniture disassembly, extra stops and heavy or unusual items. The team confirms what is needed, and what it adds, before your move.
- Long-distance moves get one written flat quote instead of an hourly rate.
How to check a Winnipeg mover, including us
A company that is new to your city should be easy to check. These points are from the Government of Canada's moving advice page (opens in a new tab), each with our answer.
- Get at least three estimates, with costs and terms in writing, not only by phone. Our rate card is on this page, and our quotes are written.
- Be wary of a mover with no physical address. Our Winnipeg office address and direct contacts are on this page, and moves are arranged by phone, by email or online.
- Be wary of a large upfront deposit, and ask whether it is refundable. Our $105 deposit is requested only after availability is confirmed, and is refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move.
- If a problem is not settled, write to the mover, then go to your provincial consumer office. In Manitoba that is the Consumer Protection Office (opens in a new tab).
The federal page lists more, so use its full checklist on us and on any other mover. Men In Trucks Moving Inc. was founded in Ottawa in 2010.

Where we move in and around Winnipeg
Our Winnipeg service area has two parts: the City of Winnipeg, and 27 surrounding communities, each within about 100 km of our Portage Avenue office by road.
Inside the City of Winnipeg
Hourly rates apply anywhere inside the city limits, including:
- Central and north: downtown Winnipeg, the Exchange District, Osborne Village, Wolseley, the West End and the North End.
- East and southeast: St. Boniface, St. Vital, Island Lakes, Sage Creek and Transcona.
- South and southwest: River Heights, Tuxedo, Charleswood, Linden Woods, Fort Garry, Fort Richmond, Waverley West and Bridgwater.
Wolseley, the West End, St. Boniface, St. Vital, Fort Garry, Tuxedo and Transcona are among the neighbourhoods with residential parking permit areas (opens in a new tab), where streets can have posted time limits. Check the signs on your block, and cancel your permit when you move.
Surrounding communities
Moves between Winnipeg and these communities use the flat price for the first 3 hours.
- North and northeast: West St. Paul (about 13 km), East St. Paul (15 km), Lockport (28 km) and Selkirk (36 km).
- North, on Highway 7 and Highway 8: Stony Mountain (about 26 km), Stonewall (37 km), Teulon (59 km), Winnipeg Beach (77 km) and Gimli (89 km).
- East (Highway 15, Highway 44 and Highway 59): Dugald (about 24 km), Oakbank (29 km) and Beausejour (60 km).
- Southeast (Highway 1, Highway 12 and Highway 59): Île-des-Chênes (about 27 km), Lorette (31 km), Niverville (43 km), Ste. Anne (48 km), St-Pierre-Jolys (57 km), Steinbach (65 km) and Grunthal (69 km).
- South (Highway 75): St. Adolphe (about 27 km), Ste. Agathe (39 km) and Morris (67 km).
- West and southwest: Headingley (about 20 km), Oak Bluff (21 km), St. François Xavier (31 km), Portage la Prairie (85 km) and Carman (85 km).
These are service areas, not office locations: our Winnipeg office is the one on Portage Avenue. Road distances are approximate and run from that office to the centre of each town, which is why your quote is worked out from your actual address. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Winkler and Morden are more than 100 km by road from our office, so moves there get a written flat quote.
Long-distance moves to and from Winnipeg
A move that leaves the local area gets one written flat quote, built from what you are moving, the access at both ends and your dates. In the booking form, choose Long-distance and tell us where you are moving to. Moving into Winnipeg from farther away? Call (431) 800-0098 or email [email protected].
Men In Trucks also has teams in Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Halifax, listed under Men In Trucks across Canada below. Starting in Ottawa? Our Ottawa to Winnipeg moves page has the Ottawa team's contacts.
Winnipeg moving questions
How much do movers cost in Winnipeg?
Inside the City of Winnipeg our rates start at $150/hr for 2 movers and a truck, $195/hr for 3 movers, $245/hr for 4 movers and $325/hr for 5 movers with two trucks, plus applicable taxes. Minimum hours and a 1-hour travel charge apply, and moves to or from surrounding communities use a flat price for the first 3 hours. The rate card is in the prices section above, and the booking page shows the rate for your date, which can be higher on busy dates.
What size crew do I need?
Start with the size of your home. The booking form proposes 2 movers for a studio or a 1-bedroom home, 3 movers once there are 2 bedrooms, 4 movers at 3 bedrooms, and 5 movers with two trucks from 4 bedrooms up; you can choose a different crew. That suggestion looks only at home size, so describe the access in your request too: stairs, a load from the back lane, the walk to the truck and, in winter, whether the steps and the lane will be cleared. Our Winnipeg team confirms the crew with you when it confirms your date.
When should I book, and is mid-month better than month-end?
Send your request as soon as your date is fixed; nothing is charged until our team confirms availability. Our rates can be higher around month-end, from Friday to Sunday and from May to September, so if your date is flexible, try a mid-month weekday in the booking form, which shows the rate for each date.
Do I need a parking permit for a moving truck in Winnipeg?
Possibly. It depends on whether there is a legal place for the truck for as long as loading takes. Start with the signs at both addresses, then read the truck parking section above, which covers the City's Use of Street permit.
Can I move during a Winnipeg winter parking ban?
Usually, yes. The winter route parking ban ends at 7 a.m., before the earliest arrival window in our booking form, so it mainly affects vehicles left on a signed winter route overnight. A residential parking ban matters mainly when your snow zone is scheduled for the day shift on your date. Look up your zone letter now, and tell us if a ban is declared near your date.
How do condo and apartment moves work in Winnipeg?
Start with your building. Ask the property manager, condo board or landlord whether the elevator must be reserved, which entrance or loading area to use and when moves are allowed, then give us those details in the booking form.
How does the deposit work, and can I change my date?
Nothing is charged when you send a booking request. After our Winnipeg team confirms availability, we send a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is confirmed once it is paid. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply. To change or cancel, call or email our Winnipeg team with your booking reference.
