Calgary moving-day rules worth knowing
Each rule below links to its official source. This is general information, not legal advice.
Truck parking and curb space
In Calgary, holding curb space for a moving truck or putting a moving container on the street is done with a City Street Use Permit (opens in a new tab). A temporary No Parking zone is issued only together with that permit: it needs signs from an approved supplier posted at least 12 hours before, and several business days of lead time. The City takes applications online, so apply well before your date.
Commercial loading zones in Calgary are signed with short time limits, and alleys must stay passable. Our source is Calgary Parking's schedule of parking offences (PDF, dated 2017) (opens in a new tab), which may be out of date, so go by the signs on your block. We confirm where the truck can park at both addresses before move day.
Condo and apartment building rules
Each Alberta condo corporation sets its own move rules through its bylaws and board rules, and tenants are bound by them too, under the Condominium Property Act (PDF) (opens in a new tab). Ask your property manager about elevator bookings and move times before you book.
Renting: notice and the noon move-out
Renting month to month in Alberta? Give your landlord one full tenancy month's written notice, with the rental address, the end date and your signature; late notice pushes your end date to the last day of the next full tenancy month (Alberta's rules for ending a tenancy (opens in a new tab)). A tenancy ends at noon on its last day unless you and your landlord agree on another time, under section 20 of the Residential Tenancies Act (PDF) (opens in a new tab), so plan your move-out crew time around that and book month-end dates early. Alberta also requires a move-out inspection report, so arrange the inspection with your landlord for after the truck is loaded.
Winter moves and snow route parking bans
If the City calls a snow route parking ban, vehicles have to be moved off its snow routes, the streets marked with blue snowflake signs, for up to 72 hours. The City's page lists a few exceptions, and vehicles left on a snow route can be ticketed and towed. The City usually gives one to two days' notice: check both addresses on its snow route map (opens in a new tab), look for a ban the day before your move, and tell us if either address is on a snow route.
What stays off the truck
Federal dangerous-goods rules limit what a hired mover can carry, so please don't pack propane tanks, gasoline, other fuels or household chemicals (Transport Canada (opens in a new tab)). Calgary's Eco Centres (opens in a new tab) take household hazardous waste, and furniture and mattresses you are not moving; charges apply to furniture and mattresses, and the City's page lists what is accepted at no charge. Keep jewellery, cash, medication and important documents with you.
After you move
Moving to Calgary and into a residential parking zone? Calgary Parking has temporary resident permits (opens in a new tab) for people who haven't updated their vehicle registration yet: 30 days if you came from elsewhere in Alberta, 90 days if you came from another province.
How your move works
- Send your request. Book online from the published rates, or ask for a written quote first. Sending the form does not book the move or charge you anything.
- We confirm availability. Our Calgary team contacts you by phone or email to confirm the date, the arrival window and the crew, plus anything priced separately, such as packing or a piano.
- You pay the $105 deposit. You get a payment link once availability is confirmed, and your move is booked once it is paid.
- You get ready. Book the elevator or loading dock if your building requires it, and settle where the truck will park at both addresses.
- Moving day. Furniture is padded and wrapped, and everything is loaded, moved and placed in the rooms you choose. If beds or tables need to be taken apart and put back together, say so in your request so the team can confirm it with you first.
- Before the crew leaves. Walk through each room with the crew. If something is damaged, note it in writing as soon as you can and keep photos.
What we need for an accurate quote
- Both addresses, each with its quadrant (NW, NE, SW or SE).
- Your date and preferred arrival window.
- The home type and size, or the number of workstations for an office.
- At each address: an elevator (and whether it is booked) and the flights of stairs.
- Parking and loading: a loading zone, a permit, a long walk to the door or low clearance.
- Heavy items, your packing level (none, partial or full), furniture to take apart and any extra stop.
Calgary moving rates and minimums
These are our Calgary rates on a standard date, before applicable taxes; busy dates, listed under the tables, can be higher. The price covers the crew, the truck and the time.
| Crew | Hourly rate (standard date) | Smallest booking |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers | $150/hr | 3 hours + 1 travel hour |
| 3 movers | $195/hr | 3 hours + 1 travel hour |
| 4 movers | $245/hr | 4 hours + 1 travel hour |
| 5 movers (two trucks) | $325/hr | 4 hours + 1 travel hour |
| Crew | First 3 hours | After that |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers | $750 flat | Hourly rate |
| 3 movers | $950 flat | Hourly rate |
| 4 movers | $1,200 flat | 4th hour at the hourly rate (4-hour minimum), then hourly |
| 5 movers (two trucks) | $1,600 flat | 4th hour at the hourly rate (4-hour minimum), then hourly |
- Inside the City of Calgary: the minimum is 3 hours for 2 or 3 movers and 4 hours for 4 or 5 movers. The 1-hour travel charge is added to it at your crew's hourly rate, so the smallest booking is 4 or 5 billed hours.
- Nearby towns such as Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane or Okotoks: the flat price is for the first 3 hours of a move between Calgary and a listed town, between two of them or inside one. Crews of 4 or 5 have a 4-hour minimum.
- Busy dates: hourly rates can be higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, on any date from May to September, and around month-end. The booking page shows the exact hourly rate for your date. The flat first 3 hours stay the same on every date.
- Confirmed separately: packing, pianos, safes, gym equipment, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and extra stops are not in the online price.
- Long-distance moves get one written flat quote for the whole job, not an hourly price.
Booking and the deposit
Booking is a request first. Our Calgary team confirms availability, then sends a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is confirmed once it is paid. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.

Comparing Calgary movers? What the Government of Canada suggests
Four points from the Office of Consumer Affairs' moving advice (opens in a new tab), each with our answer:
- Get estimates from at least three movers, and a quote in writing. Our rates are on this page, and you can ask for a written quote before you book.
- Be wary of an estimate given only over the phone. Our quotes are in writing.
- Be wary of a large upfront deposit. Our $105 deposit is requested only after our Calgary team confirms your date.
- Check a mover's references. We are new in Calgary, so we have none here to give you yet.

Where we move in Calgary
Calgary street addresses carry a quadrant: NW, NE, SW or SE. Our own office is on 5th Avenue SW, and a long road changes quadrant as it crosses the city (Memorial Drive runs through NW, NE and SE), so give the full address with its quadrant for both ends of the move.
Centre city
Downtown, the Beltline, East Village and Mission. Plan around the building and the curb: elevator bookings, short-stay loading zones, and a City permit if you want street space held.
Across the four quadrants
Kensington, Hillhurst, Sunnyside, Bridgeland, Inglewood, Marda Loop, Altadore, Mount Royal, Bowness, Montgomery, University District, Brentwood, Varsity, Tuscany, Evanston, Panorama Hills, Coventry Hills, Saddle Ridge, Taradale, Mahogany, Auburn Bay, Cranston, McKenzie Towne, McKenzie Lake, New Brighton, Shawnessy, Silverado, Evergreen and Seton, which is about 29 km by road from our downtown office and still a City of Calgary move.
These and every other address inside the City of Calgary are local moves at the same hourly rates, with the same 1-hour travel charge.
Nearby towns: a flat price for the first 3 hours
A move between Calgary and one of these communities, between two of them, or inside one of them uses the flat price for the first 3 hours. They are service areas, not office locations. Distances are by road from our downtown office to each town centre, so your quote uses your actual address.
- North, along Highway 2: Balzac (about 25 km), Airdrie (about 34 km), Crossfield (about 50 km), Carstairs (about 66 km) and Didsbury (about 82 km).
- Northeast: Irricana (about 64 km) and Beiseker (about 71 km).
- East: Chestermere (about 21 km) and Strathmore (about 52 km) along Highway 1, and Langdon (about 35 km).

- Southwest, in the Foothills County area: Priddis (about 40 km), Millarville (about 54 km) and Diamond Valley, the town formed from Black Diamond and Turner Valley (about 71 km).
- West: Springbank (about 23 km), Cochrane (about 37 km) and Bragg Creek (about 44 km).
Road distances measured in October 2026. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Canmore (about 105 km), Banff (about 128 km) and Red Deer (about 148 km) are beyond the local area. Each gets a written quote as a long-distance move.
Long-distance moves from and to Calgary
We are long-distance movers as well as local ones. A move that leaves the Calgary area gets one written flat quote for the job, built from what you are moving, the access at both ends and your dates. Choose Long-distance in the booking form and tell us where you are going. Your quote comes from our Calgary team, including when the other end has its own Men In Trucks office.
- Calgary and Edmonton: our Edmonton to Calgary route page covers the Highway 2 move from the Edmonton side, and Men In Trucks has an Edmonton office too.
- Planning the other end? See our pages for Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal and Halifax.
- Moving into Calgary from farther away: the online form starts from a pickup address in the Calgary area, so call (587) 330-0917 or email [email protected].
Calgary movers: common questions
How much do movers cost in Calgary?
On a standard date, our rates inside the City of Calgary are $150/hr for 2 movers, $195/hr for 3 movers, $245/hr for 4 movers and $325/hr for 5 movers with two trucks, plus applicable taxes. With the minimum and the 1-hour travel charge, the smallest booking is 4 billed hours for 2 or 3 movers and 5 for 4 or 5 movers. Rates can be higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, on any date from May to September, and around month-end; the booking page shows the rate for your date.
What size crew do I need?
Go by bedrooms first. In the booking form, the suggested crew follows the bedroom count: 2 movers up to one bedroom, 3 movers for two, 4 movers for three, and 5 movers with two trucks for four or more. You can pick a different crew. The suggestion counts bedrooms only, so mention a full garage or basement in your request, and tell us if your tenancy ends at noon on moving day. Our Calgary team confirms the crew with you before the move.
Do you move offices in Calgary?
Yes. Office and commercial moves use the same hourly rates and minimums as home moves. The booking form asks for your number of workstations instead of a home size, and our Calgary team confirms the plan with you before the move.
How far ahead should I book movers in Calgary?
Book as soon as you know your date. Rates can be higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, on any date from May to September, and around month-end; the booking page shows the rate for your date. If you rent, an Alberta tenancy ends at noon on its last day unless you and your landlord agree on another time, so plan your crew time around that.
Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Calgary?
You need one to have curb space reserved for the truck, or to put a moving container on the street. That is a City Street Use Permit, applied for online, and a temporary No Parking zone is issued only with it, so allow several business days. The City's page is linked under Truck parking and curb space.
How do condo and apartment moves work in Calgary?
Each Alberta condo corporation sets its own move rules, and tenants are bound by them too. Before you pick a date, ask the property manager which elevator can be booked and for which hours, where the truck may load, and whether the building wants a move booking or a deposit.
What if a snow route parking ban is called on my moving day?
A ban applies only to the City's snow routes, which are marked with blue snowflake signs, and the City usually gives one to two days' notice. Check both addresses on the City's snow route map the day before your move, and tell our Calgary team if either street is a snow route, so that parking for the truck can be planned off it. Vehicles left on a snow route during a ban can be ticketed and towed. The map is linked under Winter moves.
How does the deposit work, and is it refundable?
No payment is taken when you send the form. After our Calgary team confirms availability, you get a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is booked once it is paid. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.
Do you move to Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and other towns near Calgary?
Yes. A move between Calgary and a nearby town such as Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane or Okotoks, between two of the towns we list or inside one, starts with a flat price for the first 3 hours: $750 for 2 movers, $950 for 3 movers, $1,200 for 4 movers and $1,600 for 5 movers with two trucks, plus applicable taxes. Then it is the hourly rate, and crews of 4 or 5 have a 4-hour minimum, so their fourth hour is billed at that rate. Canmore, Banff and Red Deer are beyond the local area and get a written long-distance quote.
