Hamilton moves, booked through our Toronto office
Men In Trucks Moving Inc. is a moving company founded in Ottawa in 2010. Hamilton is new for us: Men In Trucks crews now take local moves here, booked through our Toronto office on Front Street West, about 66 km from Hamilton by road (OpenStreetMap routing). We do not have an office in Hamilton.
Hamilton is its own city, not part of the Greater Toronto Area, so this page uses the City of Hamilton's rules for parking, snow and waste rather than Toronto's. It covers how we price, plan and confirm a Hamilton move, and you get a written quote or a confirmed booking before move day.

What we move in Hamilton
Residential moves: houses and townhomes
Detached houses, semis and townhouses anywhere in the city, including the basement, the garage and the shed.
Condos and apartments
High-rise condos or low-rise rentals: the building decides the elevator booking, the move times and where the truck can load, and the plan follows those rules.
Hamilton–Toronto moves
Moving between Hamilton and Toronto, in either direction, uses the same flat first 3 hours as a move inside Hamilton.
Offices and commercial spaces
Workstations, filing cabinets and boardroom furniture. Enter your workstation count in the booking form so the crew size fits the job.
Packing and unpacking help
Pack it all yourself, have us pack part of the home, or have us pack everything: the booking form lets you pick.
Furniture and single-item moves
One piece or a handful, such as a sofa or a dresser: list them in a written quote request.
Loading and unloading labour
Renting the truck yourself, or filling a moving container? A Men In Trucks crew can do only the loading and unloading; ask for a written quote.
Heavy or unusual items
Pianos, safes, gym equipment: tell us in your request; the team confirms what is needed before the move.
Long-distance moves
From Hamilton to elsewhere in Ontario or to another province, with one written flat quote per job.
Through streets, LRT work, snow and bulk pickup in Hamilton
City of Hamilton and Ontario rules that matter on a moving day, each linked to its official page (checked in October 2026). The City updates these pages, so read the linked page again close to your date. General information, not legal advice.
Parking a moving truck on Hamilton streets
Where a Hamilton street has no posted signs, parking is unrestricted, but City rules that are not posted still apply, such as clearances at intersections and crosswalks and a 12-hour time limit. Posted signs and meters apply as marked, and we plan the truck spot around the signs on your street and your driveway (City of Hamilton on-street parking (opens in a new tab)).
Hamilton's through streets ban parking from 2 am to 7 am all year, no permit exempts a vehicle from that rule, and the streets are not signed one by one: the signs are at the main entrances to the city. To check your street, use the through-street map in the "Find a Through Street" section of the City's on-street parking page (opens in a new tab). If you rent a truck for our crew to load, do not leave it on a through street overnight.
The City's on-street parking permits are for residents' personal-use vehicles and are not issued to large trucks, so a resident permit generally will not cover a moving truck. Using part of a traffic lane or a sidewalk, or closing a road, falls under the City's temporary road use permits (opens in a new tab). We plan loading from a legal curb spot, your driveway or the building's loading area; if your street leaves no such option, say so in your request and our Toronto team will look at it with you before the move is booked.
Truck routes and LRT construction in the lower city
Hamilton has a designated truck route network. Trucks may leave it to reach a destination, taking the shortest way in from the truck route, and that is how we plan the drive to your door (City of Hamilton truck route network (opens in a new tab)).
Light rail transit (LRT) construction is under way in the lower city, and the City's list of lane restrictions and road closures includes LRT lane occupancies and closures; the list does not include unscheduled or emergency closures. We check it for your date when we plan the route and the truck spot (City of Hamilton lane restrictions and road closures (opens in a new tab)). If either address is on or next to the LRT route, which runs from McMaster University to Eastgate Square, the City's LRT page links the latest construction updates and notes a separate process for temporary lane and sidewalk occupancies along the corridor (City of Hamilton LRT updates (opens in a new tab)).
Condos and apartments: elevators and move times
In an Ontario condo, the board makes the rules, and they must be reasonable and consistent with the Condo Act and the corporation's governing documents (Condominium Authority of Ontario (opens in a new tab)). Move arrangements such as the elevator booking, the allowed move times and any deposit are set building by building, so ask your property manager or superintendent for them early and share them with us.
Worth asking before you choose a date:
- When are moves allowed, and how is the elevator reserved?
- Does the building ask for a move or damage deposit?
- Where does the truck stop: a loading area, the driveway, a lane or the street, and is there a height limit?
- Does management need anything from the moving company before move day?
If management asks for something, forward the request to us before you book; our Toronto team will tell you whether it can provide it. In the booking form you mark each address's elevator (and whether it is reserved) and any loading, permit or clearance limits, then choose a morning, midday, afternoon or flexible arrival window, shown in Eastern Time.
Winter moves in Hamilton
During and after a snowfall, the City asks residents to park off the street where possible so plows can clear the roads, and not to park where a sign reads Snow Route, No Stopping or No Parking. When the City declares a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on the designated snow emergency routes, and vehicles blocking them may be ticketed or towed. A declared Significant Weather Event is a notice to take care, not a road closure (City of Hamilton snow clearing (opens in a new tab)).
For a winter move we watch City notices and may adjust the truck spot or the timing. When you clear a space for the truck, the City asks that the snow go on your boulevard or your yard, not onto the road.
Renting? Your notice and your moving date
Renting? In Ontario your notice to the landlord generally goes in writing on the Landlord and Tenant Board's Form N9, at least 60 days ahead. Check the dates for your own tenancy with the LTB before you pick a moving day: How a tenant can end their tenancy (Tribunals Ontario) (opens in a new tab).
Before moving day: what to leave out and what not to pack
- Leaving furniture or a mattress behind? Homes with curbside collection can book a City bulk pickup, which happens on your collection day and has limits on how many items and how large, so book it well before you move. Every mattress and box spring must be wrapped and sealed in plastic, or it is not collected (City bulk items and furniture (opens in a new tab)). In an apartment building, ask your superintendent to arrange bulk disposal (City apartment bulk items (opens in a new tab)).
- Paint, propane cylinders, fuels and household chemicals should not go on the truck: federal dangerous-goods rules limit what a hired mover can carry (Transport Canada (opens in a new tab)). Hamilton residents can drop household hazardous waste at a City Community Recycling Centre at no charge; it is not picked up at the curb (City household hazardous waste (opens in a new tab)).
- Carry your own valuables, medication, keys and important papers in your car rather than on the truck.
How a Hamilton move works
- Send a request. In the booking form, choose Hamilton or your Hamilton community as the pickup or destination city, pick your crew and date and see the rate for that date, or ask for a written quote first. Sending the form does not book the move or charge you anything.
- We confirm availability. Our Toronto team checks your details and contacts you by phone or email to confirm the date, the arrival window (Eastern Time) and the crew, plus anything priced separately, such as packing or a piano.
- Pay the deposit to book. You get a payment link for the deposit. Your move is booked once it is paid.
- Moving day. The crew loads at the first address, drives to the second and sets each piece in the room you point to. Check every room with them before they go.
What we need for an accurate quote
- Both addresses and which community each is in (for example Dundas or Stoney Creek), any extra stop, your date and preferred arrival window.
- What kind of home it is and how many bedrooms, or how many workstations for an office.
- At each address, the elevator (and whether it is reserved) and the number of flights of stairs.
- Parking or loading limits: a through street, a lane or sidewalk the truck would block, a long walk to the door, low clearance.
- Heavy pieces, how much packing you want from us, and any furniture that must come apart.
How Hamilton moving prices work
Hamilton rates on standard dates, before HST (13%). Hamilton is one of the surrounding communities in our Toronto booking form, outside the City of Toronto. So for a move inside Hamilton, between Hamilton and Toronto, or between Hamilton and another community in the form, the first 3 hours are one flat price for the crew and the truck, then the hourly rate for your date applies.
Crews of 2 or 3 movers have a 3-hour minimum, which the flat price covers. Crews of 4 or 5 movers have a 4-hour minimum, so their fourth hour is billed at the hourly rate.
Example. With 2 movers on a standard date, the smallest Hamilton booking is the $750 flat price for the first 3 hours; any time after that is $150/hr.
Busy dates. The hourly rate can be higher on busy dates (Friday to Sunday, May to September and around month-end); the booking form shows the exact rate for your date. The flat first 3 hours stay the same on every date.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Crew | First 3 hours | After the first 3 hours | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 movers and a truck | $750 flat | $150/hr | 3 hours |
| 3 movers | $950 flat | $195/hr | 3 hours |
| 4 movers | $1,200 flat | $245/hr | 4 hours |
| 5 movers and 2 trucks | $1,600 flat | $325/hr | 4 hours |
Both addresses in the City of Toronto? Then the move is hourly from the first hour, with 1 hour of travel added; see Toronto movers.
Deposit and booking. Sending the form is a request, with no payment taken. Once our Toronto team confirms availability, we send a payment link for the $105 deposit, and your move is booked when it is paid. Deposits are refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move; inside 48 hours a fee may apply.
Not priced online. Long-distance moves get one written flat quote per job. Packing, furniture disassembly, extra stops and heavy items such as pianos and safes are confirmed by our Toronto team before your move.

What you can check before you book a Hamilton move
- Founded in Ottawa in 2010. Hamilton moves are booked through our Toronto office.
- Prices on the page. The flat price for the first 3 hours and the hourly rates are both listed above, and the booking form shows what applies on your date.
- Written quotes. Nothing is booked and no deposit is requested unless you accept the quote.

Checks that apply to any mover you hire in Hamilton, including us
- Ask for the contract in writing, with the services and their prices itemized.
- Ask how far the final bill can go over the estimate: Ontario limits that unless you need, and agree to, extra services or supplies.
- A mover is not allowed to hold your belongings to pressure you into new terms.

The lower city, the Mountain and the amalgamated communities
The City of Hamilton brings together Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, Hamilton and Stoney Creek, which its Rural Hamilton Official Plan calls the amalgamated communities. Men In Trucks crews, booked through our Toronto office, take local moves across the city, at the same flat first 3 hours wherever your address is.
Downtown and the lower city about 66 km by road
Downtown Hamilton, Westdale, Kirkendall, Strathcona and the other neighbourhoods below the Niagara Escarpment, where we check the LRT lane restrictions and the truck route signs when we plan the route.
The Mountain
Homes, condos and apartments above the Niagara Escarpment, which the City notes is often called the Mountain. A move between the Mountain and the lower city goes up or down the escarpment, and we plan that part of the drive on the City's truck route network.
Waterdown, Stoney Creek, Dundas and Ancaster
- Waterdown (Flamborough): about 61 km by road
- Stoney Creek, east of downtown: about 69 km by road
- Dundas, west of downtown: about 71 km by road
- Ancaster: about 73 km by road
Binbrook, Glanbrook and the rural areas
Binbrook and the rest of Glanbrook are part of the City of Hamilton, which also has rural areas. If the truck cannot park close to your door, for example at the end of a long laneway, say so in the booking form's parking or loading field so we can plan for it.
In the booking form, Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek and Waterdown have their own options; for Binbrook, the Mountain or any other part of the city, pick Hamilton. All of them use the same flat first 3 hours.
Moves between Hamilton and nearby communities
The same flat first 3 hours apply to a move between Hamilton and Toronto, or between Hamilton and another community in the booking form, such as Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Grimsby, Beamsville, St. Catharines, Brantford, Cambridge or Guelph. Moving to or from Mississauga or Brampton? See our Mississauga movers and Brampton movers pages.
These are service areas, not office locations. Distances are approximate road distances from our Toronto office to each community's centre, measured in October 2026 with OpenStreetMap routing; Hamilton's figure is to a central point of a large city. Your quote is based on your actual addresses. Distance data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Long-distance moves from and to Hamilton
Moving from Hamilton to a place beyond the booking form's communities, such as Ottawa, Montréal or another province? It gets one written flat quote from our Toronto team, not an hourly price. Choose Long-distance in the booking form and tell us where you are going; no deposit is requested unless you accept the quote.
To price it, the Toronto team uses what you enter in the form: where the move starts and ends, how big the home or office is, the date, stairs, elevators and parking at both ends, and any packing or heavy pieces.
Moving to Hamilton from Ottawa? Our Ottawa office has a route page for that move, Ottawa to Hamilton movers, and quotes the requests sent from it. For moves between Hamilton or Toronto and Montréal, in either direction, see Toronto to Montréal movers. For other long-distance moves from Hamilton or Toronto, see Toronto long-distance moves.
Hamilton movers: common questions
How much do movers cost in Hamilton?
Local Hamilton moves use a flat price for the first 3 hours: $750 for 2 movers and a truck, $950 for 3 movers, $1,200 for 4 movers and $1,600 for 5 movers with 2 trucks, before HST (13%). After 3 hours, the hourly rate for your date applies: $150/hr, $195/hr, $245/hr or $325/hr on standard dates, and it can be higher on busy dates. Crews of 4 or 5 movers have a 4-hour minimum, so their fourth hour is billed at the hourly rate. The same prices apply to moves between Hamilton and Toronto.
Which Men In Trucks office handles Hamilton moves?
Our Toronto office at 325 Front Street West, about 66 km from Hamilton by road (OpenStreetMap routing). Hamilton is its own city, not part of the GTA, and we have no office there. Men In Trucks crews do the moves, and you arrange yours by phone at (365) 601-5001, by email at [email protected] or online.
Do I need a parking permit for a moving truck in Hamilton?
We plan the truck around a legal curb spot, your driveway or the building's loading area. Where a street has no posted signs, parking is unrestricted, though unposted City rules still apply, and through streets ban parking from 2 am to 7 am. The City's on-street parking permits are not issued to large trucks, and using part of a lane or a sidewalk needs one of the City's temporary road use permits. Tell us about any loading limits in your request.
What happens if it snows on moving day?
We watch City notices and may adjust the truck spot or the timing. During a declared snow emergency, parking is prohibited on Hamilton's designated snow emergency routes, and the City asks residents to park off the street during and after a snowfall where possible. Clear your driveway and walkways, and put the snow on your boulevard or yard, not on the road.
How do I get rid of old furniture or a mattress when I move?
If your home has curbside collection, book a City bulk pickup well before moving day; it happens on your collection day, with limits on how many items and how large. Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped and sealed in plastic. In an apartment building, ask your superintendent. Paint, propane and household chemicals go to a City Community Recycling Centre, at no charge for Hamilton residents.
Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
Yes: a $105 deposit, refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before your move (inside 48 hours a fee may apply). Nothing is charged when you send the booking form. After our Toronto team confirms availability, you get a payment link for the deposit, and your move is booked once it is paid.
How many movers do I need?
As a starting point the booking form suggests 2 movers for a studio or 1-bedroom home, 3 for 2 bedrooms, 4 for 3 bedrooms, and 5 movers with 2 trucks for 4 bedrooms or more. You can choose a different crew; stairs, elevators and parking at both addresses also matter. Before the move is booked, our Toronto team agrees the crew size with you.
How far ahead should I book movers in Hamilton?
Book once your date is settled; earlier gives you more choice of dates. Renters can start when they give notice, since Ontario tenants generally give at least 60 days' written notice. In a condo or apartment building, reserve the elevator first, and book any City bulk pickup well ahead. Busy dates are Friday to Sunday, May to September and around month-end.
