Safe Movers Ottawa — Gun Safes, Home Safes, Office Safes, Heavy Vault Moves
Moving a safe is not a regular furniture move. Safes are dense, top-heavy, and easy to tip — and they damage floors, stairs, and walls in seconds if mishandled. Men In Trucks Moving is Ottawa’s trained safe mover for gun safes, home safes, office safes, and heavy vault-style units across residential, commercial, and basement-to-garage relocations.
Every safe move starts with a route assessment: weight, dimensions, stair count, door widths, floor type, and access at both ends. We bring heavy-duty appliance dollies, J-bars, plywood ramps, and trained crews matched to the safe’s weight class.

Safe moving services in Ottawa
Gun safe movers Ottawa
Gun safes are typically 500-1,500 lbs in the residential range, with 8-12 gauge steel walls and reinforced doors. We move them upright on heavy-duty appliance dollies whenever the route allows it — that’s the safest orientation. Tilt-moves through low doorways or basement entries get planned with extra crew and floor protection.
Home safe moving Ottawa
Smaller residential safes — jewellery safes, document safes, fire safes — usually in the 100-400 lb range. These move on appliance dollies with a 2-3 person crew. We protect floors at both ends and brace the safe upright in the truck for transport.
Office safe moving Ottawa
Office floor safes, B-rate and C-rate office safes, commercial document safes — 400-2,000 lbs. Office safe moves usually involve elevator coordination, building COI submission, and after-hours scheduling so the office stays operational. We handle the building paperwork and the move.
Heavy safe moving
Vault-style safes 2,000+ lbs, full-size gun safes 3,000+ lbs, commercial vault doors. For anything over 2,500 lbs we do a site visit first — we want to see the route in person, measure clearances, check floor load ratings, and plan the rigging properly before move day. Site visits across Ottawa are free.
Basement safe moving
Basement safes are common and tricky — narrow stairs, low ceilings, sharp turns at the landing. We bring stair straps, plywood ramps where needed, and a 3-4 person crew. Tell us stair count, stair width, and any turns when you book so we bring the right team.
Garage safe moving
Garage-stored safes usually have the easiest route (driveway to truck) but often weigh more than residential safes because they’re outside the house. We bring extra protection if the safe is being moved into the new house — driveway-to-living-room routes need full floor and corner protection.
Safe relocation and delivery
One-way safe delivery — you bought a safe from a retailer that doesn’t install it, or you need an old safe hauled to a new owner. We pick up, transport, and place in the final position. We don’t crack or open safes — that’s a locksmith’s job.
Our safe-moving process
Every safe move follows the same disciplined sequence:
- Route walk — we look at the path from the safe’s current position to the truck, then from the truck to the destination position. We note clearances, floor types, turns, and obstacles.
- Crew & equipment match — safe weight + route complexity determines crew size (2, 3, 4, or 5 people) and equipment (standard dolly vs heavy-duty appliance dolly vs J-bar vs plywood ramp setup).
- Protection — floor runners, hardboard at high-pressure points, door jamb pads, corner protectors, stair-edge pads. Protection goes down before the safe moves.
- Move — upright whenever possible. Tilt-and-roll only when the route demands it, with the safe braced and a dedicated spotter for each turn.
- Truck placement — safe is braced upright in the truck with ratchet straps anchored to truck rails. No sliding during transit.
- Destination setup — safe is placed in the requested position, levelled if needed, and the route protection is removed.
Why people call us for safe moves
- Trained crews — safe moves get crews that have moved safes before, not the next 2-person team out of the schedule.
- Right equipment, every move — heavy-duty appliance dollies, J-bars, plywood ramps, stair straps, corner and floor protection.
- Licensed and insured with $5M liability coverage and $50K cargo insurance. COI available on request for condos, commercial buildings, and high-rise office moves.
- Honest assessment — if a safe is too heavy for the route as-is, we’ll say so before move day. Sometimes that means removing a door, taking a window out, or recommending a different destination position.
- Custom flat-rate quote — based on safe weight, dimensions, and access at both ends. No hourly surprises.

Safe moving FAQ
How heavy of a safe can you move?
We routinely move safes in the 500-2,500 lb range with standard crews and equipment. For safes 2,500-3,500+ lbs we do a free site visit first to assess the route and plan crew, equipment, and rigging before move day. For very large vault-style installations we’ll quote per project.
Can you take a safe down basement stairs?
Yes, with the right setup. We need stair count, stair width, the turn radius at the landing (if any), and the safe weight. For safes over 800 lbs going down full-flight basement stairs, we typically use a 4-person crew with stair straps and a J-bar for the bottom landing.
Will my floors get damaged?
That’s the failure mode we plan around. We protect floors with hardboard runners, neoprene mats at high-pressure points, and corner protectors on transitions. Hardwood and tile floors get full coverage along the route. We don’t move safes without protection down.
Do you crack or open safes?
No. Safe opening is locksmith work — we don’t crack safes, drill them, or pick locks. If you’ve lost your combination, call a certified safe locksmith for the open, then call us for the move.
How much does it cost to move a safe in Ottawa?
Safe move pricing depends on the safe’s weight, dimensions, the route at both ends (stairs, turns, distance to truck), and your floor protection requirements. We quote each safe move as a custom flat rate so the price you see is the price you pay. Request a safe moving quote.
Can you move a safe into a condo building?
Yes. We handle the building Certificate of Insurance submission, elevator booking, and loading-dock coordination. Tell us the building name when you request your quote and we’ll start the building paperwork while we schedule the move.
How far in advance should I book a safe move?
2-3 weeks for standard safes, 3-4 weeks for safes over 1,000 lbs (so we have crew and equipment available), and a site visit window of 1 week for safes that need pre-move assessment. Call 613-800-0917 to check availability.
Request your safe moving quote
Send us the safe weight, dimensions, current location, destination, and access details at both ends. We’ll come back with a custom flat-rate quote and (for heavier safes) a site-visit window if needed.
