Why Kanata needs a moving crew that knows the west end

Kanata is three different moves stacked on top of each other. A Monday morning relocation out of an executive home on Morgan’s Grant Road has nothing in common with a Thursday-night condo move off Hazeldean Road, and neither looks like a Friday office move at Kanata North’s 350 Legget Drive. The crew, the truck, the tools, and the route all change. We build the move around the neighborhood, not the other way around.

Tech-sector relocations dominate our Kanata calendar. Engineers, data scientists, and product managers coming in for roles at the Kanata North Technology Park — home to more than 540 companies across Terry Fox, Solandt, Palladium, and March Road — move here for work and expect a mover that can handle corporate-paid relocations properly: invoicing on company letterhead, HST receipts, certificate of insurance, declared value coverage, and crews that show up when the IT rollout team does. We do those moves every week.

The residential side is different again. Homes in Kanata Lakes and Bridlewood are on quieter cul-de-sacs with tight turning radii, low-hanging maple branches in summer, and driveways that slope into garages packed with gear. Morgan’s Grant has newer, larger builds with wider stair runs but more square footage to pack out. Katimavik and Glen Cairn are the original 1980s Kanata — split-levels, finished basements, and older appliances that need dollies that actually fit through 28-inch doorways. We bring the right truck and the right pads for each of those.

Kanata neighborhoods we move every week

Kanata Lakes & Marchwood LakesideExecutive homes, finished basements, and back-yard sheds. Long driveways, large furniture, and often a second property elsewhere we coordinate with.
Bridlewood & Emerald MeadowsFamily homes, teen bedrooms, playrooms, backyard trampolines and sheds. School-calendar move windows are the norm here.
Morgan’s Grant & Kanata HighlandsNewer two-storey builds, wider doorways, and corporate transferees. We bring extra pads for custom cabinetry and sectional pieces.
Katimavik, Glen Cairn & HazeldeanOriginal Kanata. Split-levels, older condos along Hazeldean Road, and basement walkouts. Narrow stair runs — we pre-measure before stairs.
BeaverbrookKanata’s oldest planned community. Townhomes backing onto greenbelts, shared driveways, and strict condo-board move windows we book around.
Kanata North Tech ParkOffice and lab moves on Legget, Solandt, Terry Fox, Palladium, and March. After-hours and weekend windows, COI to building management, secure-disposal of old equipment.

Moving services we offer in Kanata

Residential moves (houses, condos, townhomes)

Full-service residential moves from a one-bedroom apartment on Campeau Drive to a five-bedroom executive home in Kanata Lakes. We protect hardwood with runners, pad every doorframe, disassemble beds and sectionals, and reassemble on delivery. Flat-rate quotes include truck, fuel, pads, wardrobe boxes, and a crew sized to the move — not an hourly clock running while your crew takes lunch. See local moving options and pricing.

Packing and unpacking

Full-service packing for clients who are moving for a new job and don’t have two weekends to wrap glassware. Partial packing for kitchens, libraries, and home offices. We supply boxes, paper, bubble, tape, and labels, and we label by room and priority so the first box off the truck at your new place is the coffee maker and bedsheets — not a random box of winter boots. Details on our packing services page.

Storage between moves

Kanata closings don’t always line up. When your Bridlewood sale closes on the 15th but your Morgan’s Grant keys don’t come until the 30th, we hold your household in our climate-controlled Ottawa facility, then deliver when you’re ready. You pay by the week, not the month. More on short and long-term storage.

Junk removal and donation runs

Moving out of a Katimavik split-level after 20 years usually means a basement that needs to lose half its contents before the move. We haul the junk, drop donations at Matthew House or Habitat ReStore on Iber Road, and recycle electronics at an approved depot — all on the same crew, same day. Bundle it with the move and you save a truck rental and three weekends at the transfer station.

Corporate and tech-park moves

Office moves for Kanata North tenants: workstation disassembly and rebuild, server-rack relocations with anti-static handling, COI issued to building management, after-hours and weekend windows, secure chain-of-custody for IT assets. Crews uniformed, vehicles unmarked on request.

Long-distance and interprovincial

Moving out of Kanata to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, or the Maritimes for a new job. Dedicated truck, single crew loading and unloading, firm delivery windows, and no transfer depots where things disappear. See our long-distance movers page.

Kanata streets, buildings, and landmarks we move every week

Morgan’s Grant Way, Goldridge Drive, Shirley’s Brook Drive, Abbeyhill Drive, Hazeldean Road, Eagleson Road, Terry Fox Drive, March Road, Castlefrank Road, Campeau Drive, Kanata Avenue, Huntmar Drive, Palladium Drive, Legget Drive, Solandt Road, Herzberg Road. Landmarks we’ve loaded or unloaded near in the past year: Kanata Centrum, Centrum Boulevard, the Canadian Tire Centre, the Beaverbrook library, Earl of March Secondary, All Saints High School, St. Isidore Catholic School, Glen Cairn Community Centre, the Walter Baker Sports Centre in Barrhaven (for Kanata-to-Barrhaven moves), and the Kanata Recreation Complex.

Our drivers don’t need GPS for Kanata. That matters on closing day when the GPS route wants you on Eagleson at 4:45 pm and you already know the backup — Terry Fox to March Road, cut across on Solandt — will shave 20 minutes off the load.

What a Kanata move actually costs

Flat-rate quotes, not hourly meters. A typical two-bedroom Kanata condo to a Kanata house runs in a specific band; a four-bedroom Kanata Lakes executive home to another Kanata-area home runs in another. The quote we send you is the price we bill — no “stairs surcharge” showing up on the invoice, no “long carry” fee because your driveway was 30 feet instead of 20. If the job takes longer than we estimated, that’s on us. If it takes less, we don’t pad the bill.

Kanata movers — frequently asked questions

Do you move offices inside the Kanata North tech park after hours?

Yes. Most Kanata North moves we handle are after-hours or weekend windows to avoid disrupting business operations. We issue a Certificate of Insurance to your building’s property manager, coordinate with security for freight elevator bookings, and uniform the crew. Server-rack moves include anti-static handling and can be chain-of-custody documented.

Can you handle a corporate-relocation move where my employer pays the bill?

Yes. We invoice directly to your employer or relocation management company, provide HST receipts, declared-value coverage, and the documentation your HR or relocation coordinator needs. A lot of our Kanata work comes through corporate transferees — the process is boring for us, which is what you want.

How far ahead should I book a move in Kanata?

Two to four weeks is ideal for prime windows — end of month, end of school year, and the first weekend after a corporate relocation offer lands. For mid-month weekday moves we can often accommodate a few days’ notice. If you’re in a Beaverbrook condo with a building-assigned move window, book as soon as you have the window from the board.

My driveway is long and slopes into the garage. Is that a problem?

No. It’s Kanata — we’ve seen every driveway configuration. We bring walk-boards where needed, dollies with better wheels for rougher surfaces, and if a full-size truck won’t fit comfortably we shuttle with a smaller straight truck. None of that adds to your flat-rate quote.

Do you move hot tubs, pianos, pool tables, or gun safes?

Yes to all four with proper notice so we can assign the right crew size and equipment. Hot tubs and pool tables need dedicated handling equipment; upright and grand pianos each have their own method; gun safes over 600 lb need reinforced dollies and sometimes a fifth crew member. Tell us at quote time and it’s built into the flat rate.

Can you store our things if the new Kanata home isn’t ready on closing day?

Yes. We hold your household in our Ottawa climate-controlled facility between closings, billed by the week. Most Kanata closing-gap clients store for 3 to 14 days; we’ve held longer for corporate transferees waiting on a permanent home.

Are you insured, and what does the coverage actually cover?

Yes — commercial general liability and cargo coverage, with proof of insurance available on request. Basic coverage is included in every move; declared-value and full-replacement options are available for high-value households (common for Kanata Lakes and Morgan’s Grant moves). We walk you through the options at quote stage so there are no surprises.
