Government & Legal

Required by law — most have deadlines measured in days, not weeks.

Utilities & Services

Call or update online 2–3 weeks before you move. Most Ottawa utilities need 3+ business days to connect.

Banking & Insurance

Update these early — insurers often require notice before the move and lenders need it for statements.

Work & Healthcare

Anyone who’ll send you a T4, a prescription refill or a reminder about an appointment.

Subscriptions & Personal

Small but adds up — missed deliveries and lost magazine trial cards are the usual victims.

Still need movers?

Paperwork done. Trucks next.

Once the change-of-address list is done, the only thing left is actually moving the stuff. Our Ottawa crews handle loading, transport and unloading — $140–$220/hr, fully insured, same-week availability.

  • Licensed & WSIB-insured Ottawa crews
  • Transparent hourly rate, no surprise fuel fees

Frequently asked questions

When should I start updating my address?

Canada Post mail forwarding, insurance and utilities should be booked 2–4 weeks before your move. Driver’s licence and health card have a 6-day legal deadline after the move. Everything else can be done in the first week at your new place.

Do I really need Canada Post mail forwarding if I update everyone?

Yes — you will always miss someone. Tax slips, jury-duty notices, rebate cheques, courier notifications and seasonal mail from organizations you forgot you’re on a list for. $95 for four months is cheap insurance.

Is there a fee to transfer Hydro Ottawa or Enbridge Gas?

No fee to transfer within their service area. Reconnection fees (usually $40–$100) apply only if service was disconnected before the new owner took over. Give 3–5 business days notice.

What’s the fastest way to update CRA?

CRA My Account — logs you in with your bank credentials and updates instantly. Phone is also fast (1-800-959-8281) but hold times can be 30+ minutes during tax season.

What if I’m moving from outside Ontario?

You have 60 days to exchange an out-of-province licence at Service Ontario in person. OHIP has a 3-month waiting period during which your previous provincial plan still covers you.

Does my data get sent anywhere?

No. Your ticks are stored only in your own browser via localStorage, for 7 days. No analytics on this checklist, no email capture, no server-side tracking.

Can I print this as a paper list?

Yes — use the Print button above. The print stylesheet strips navigation, colors and links so you get a clean checklist suited for pinning to the fridge.

Links to government and third-party sites open in a new tab. Men In Trucks Moving does not store your checklist data. Fees and deadlines shown are accurate as of April 2026 and may change — verify on each provider’s official page before relying on them.
