Barrhaven is the fastest-growing suburb in Ottawa. Half Moon Bay and Stonebridge sell out fresh inventory every spring, Longfields-Davidson Heights cycles new families in monthly, and the Mattamy and Minto builds along Strandherd keep handing keys to first-time homebuyers. We’ve been moving Barrhaven families for fifteen years — and most calls land in two flavours: I’m taking possession of a brand-new build and have no idea what the day actually looks like, or I’m upsizing from a condo and need this to not blow up my Saturday. Here’s the straight version of both.

Which Barrhaven neighborhoods we serve
We cover every postal code under K2J. That includes Half Moon Bay, Stonebridge, Longfields-Davidson Heights, Chapman Mills, Strandherd corridor, Heart’s Desire, and the older Knoxdale-Merivale boundary streets. Our nearest dispatch warehouse is in west Ottawa, about a 12-minute crew drive to the typical Half Moon Bay address. Most Barrhaven moves get a crew at your door inside the booked arrival window without parking-related delays — most subdivisions still have wide street access and visitor-parking buffers.
Most common Barrhaven move types
New-build move-in (the volume driver). Possession day at a Mattamy or Minto home in Half Moon Bay or Stonebridge. You signed paperwork three months ago, picked up keys this morning, and the truck arrives this afternoon. These usually run 5–7 hours with 3 movers because there’s almost always at least one large item (sectional, king mattress, peloton, dining table) that needs careful navigation through the new doorways. Cost driver: ground floor vs upper floor placement of the primary bedroom set.
Condo → first house. The Centrum-area condo to a Stonebridge townhouse is a classic spring lane. 4–6 hours with 2–3 movers, depending on box count. Elevator booking on the condo side matters — reserve as early as the building allows.
Within-Barrhaven upsize. Townhouse in Longfields → detached in Half Moon Bay. Short drive between addresses, 4–5 hours typically, all hands on deck for the master-bedroom and basement load.
Cross-Ottawa relocation in/out. Federal public service hires sometimes land in Barrhaven from across the country. If you’re inbound long-distance, see our Ottawa long-distance moving page for how the build-up pricing works.
What actually drives the bill
Three factors, in order of impact:
- Builder-handover timing. If the builder hands you keys at 11 AM and we’re booked to start at 1 PM, you have a 2-hour window to do walkthrough + photos + appliance checks. If the builder slips to 1 PM handover (it happens), your truck is sitting in the driveway. Book the truck to start a buffer of 2–3 hours after the scheduled handover.
- Box count + boxes you packed yourself. A typical Half Moon Bay detached home generates 60–90 boxes. Self-pack saves real money. We see ranges of 4–7 working hours just on the basis of pack quality.
- Stair access at the new home. 2-storey detached homes with the master upstairs is the norm in Half Moon Bay. Stair-counting matters. Bungalows price slightly lower because the elevator is gravity.
Packing, storage, and protective wrap
If you want us to pack you, we bring full materials and a separate crew rate. Many Barrhaven customers self-pack everything except large fragile items (artwork, mirrors, weighted electronics) and book us only for the load + transport + unload. See our Ottawa packing services page.
For phased moves where you sold before the new build was ready, we handle short-term storage at our Ottawa warehouse. Pickup load → store → deliver to new address when keys are in hand. Details on our Ottawa storage page.
Booking and deposit
A $100 refundable deposit by Interac e-Transfer to [email protected] holds the crew and truck for your date. Refundable up to 7 days before the move. Once the deposit lands we confirm the arrival window (8 AM, 10 AM, or 12 PM weekday starts are typical) and send you a calendar invite.

FAQ
How early should I book a Barrhaven move? For Half Moon Bay and Stonebridge possession days in May–September, 4–6 weeks ahead. Builder-handover months are heavily booked. Weekday moves outside peak season, often 1–2 weeks is enough.
Do you charge extra for new-build vs. existing-home move-ins? No. Hourly billing is the same. New-build moves sometimes run longer because of careful placement requests — you only pay for the time we actually used.
What if the builder delays my handover? Tell us as early as you know. We can usually shift the arrival window by 2–4 hours same-day for free. Full-day reschedule with less than 48-hour notice may incur a small re-booking fee.
Do you assemble furniture (bed frames, IKEA pieces) at the new home? Yes, basic reassembly of items we disassembled at pickup is part of the move. Brand-new IKEA boxes still flat-packed in your garage are a separate paid service — we can quote on-site.
Are you insured? Fully — $5M general liability + $50K cargo coverage. Documents available on request.
