Kanata is where Ottawa’s tech corridor lives, where new families settle into Kanata Lakes and Bridlewood, and where condo dwellers in the Centrum towers regularly move up to single-family homes in Morgan’s Grant. We’ve been moving Kanata residents for fifteen years — and most of the calls we get start with the same question: how much is this actually going to cost, and what do I need to know that the other movers won’t tell me?
Here’s a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
Which Kanata neighborhoods we serve
We cover every postal code under K2K, K2L, K2M, K2T, K2V, and K2W. That includes Kanata Lakes, Bridlewood, Morgan’s Grant, Glen Cairn, Beaverbrook, Hazeldean, Kanata North Business Park, Stittsville (technically K2S but it’s right next door), and the Centrum-area towers. Our nearest warehouse is 2768 Sheffield Road in east Ottawa, about a 15-minute crew drive west on the 417.
Most common Kanata move types
Condo → first house. The Centrum and Hazeldean condo towers feed Kanata Lakes / Bridlewood single-family homes every spring. These moves usually run 4–6 hours with 2–3 movers and a 26-ft truck.
Tech-corp relocation in/out. Kanata North Business Park brings hires from Toronto, Waterloo, Vancouver, and Montreal. Long-distance moves into Kanata are something we run almost weekly. If you’re inbound from across the country, see our Ottawa long-distance moving page for how the build-up pricing works.
Senior downsizing. Mature neighborhoods like Beaverbrook have a steady flow of seniors transitioning to retirement communities in Ottawa or Stittsville. We do these with extra time, fragile-handling protocols, and zero rush.
Single-family upsize. Bridlewood→Kanata Lakes is the classic move. These tend to run 5–7 hours with 3 movers.
What actually drives the bill
Three things, in order of impact:
- Time at each address. Stair access, long carry from truck to door, and parking restrictions all add minutes. Kanata Lakes detached homes with attached garages are fast. Centrum towers with one freight elevator and a 20-minute loading-dock window are slower.
- Inventory volume. A 2-bed condo with about 35–50 boxes plus standard furniture usually fits a 26-ft truck in one load. A larger 4-bedroom single-family with appliances may need 1.5 trips or a larger crew.
- Day of the week + time of month. The last weekend of each month is peak — most condo and rental leases turn over then. Weekday afternoons are the cheapest crew availability if your schedule allows.
Packing, storage, and protective wrap
If you want us to pack you, we bring full materials and a separate crew rate. Many Kanata customers self-pack everything except large fragile items (artwork, mirrors, weighted electronics) and book us only for the load + transport + unload. See our Ottawa packing services page.
For phased moves (sell first, then buy), we handle short-term storage at our Ottawa warehouse. Pickup load → store → deliver to new address when you’re ready. Details on our Ottawa storage page.
Booking and deposit
A $100 refundable deposit holds the crew and truck for your date. Refundable up to 7 days before the move. Once the deposit lands we confirm the arrival window (8 AM, 10 AM, or 12 PM weekday starts are typical) and send you a calendar invite.
